Pleased to report further to my earlier review that the club has now installed some lovely hard wood, easy to spot 150 yard markers on each hole. The signature Par 5 14th has now fully reopened following it's remodelling. Great course at a great price no wonder it's popular
Really enjoyable days golf at excellent prices. This is a great course on the outskirts of Wolverhampton. The course isn't long at about 5900 yards from the yellow tees but don't let that fool you this course can be very tricky - virtually every hole is tree lined, it is very tight and there are a few blind shots. This isn't a course to knock it miles but one to plot your way around. Each hole is distinctive and a couple are spectacular - particularly the 6th and 14th h Par 5's. The 6th Plays from the near the top of the course with spectacular views whilst the 14th plays from the bottom of the course through a spectacular tight tree lined dogleg. There are some improvements work underway to the driving range and to some drainage at isolated spots around the course. Considering the weather we've had the course conditions were excellent with a couple of temporary greens in play and one temporary tee near to where some drainage work was underway. Members seem very friendly - they and the staff seem happy to have you there - the club is privately owned (as opposed to being owned by the members). Good clubhouse with excellent food and drink. The course has been rerouted since I first played it about 10 years ago (think they've swapped the front and back nines about). Despite a few blind shots the course is fairly easy to find your way around - my only criticism is we couldn't see any marker posts from 100/150 yards. This is overall a very minor criticism on what is a very enjoyable course.
Played this course in the summer. Very enjoyable, would highly recommend, it tests all aspects of your game. Looks like they have just had a refurb of the clubhouse - very nice !
Lovely course, really enjoyed the back 9. Managed to get a winter deal on the green fee so great value for money. Quite a tight course so take a few spare balls ! A little gem which should be played and experienced.
Arrived to be greeted by friendly staff who showed me were the first tee was and then as playing on my own was greeted by friendly members who asked me to join them in a round. Tees and greens in very good condition. great views from many of the holes and was very impressed with holes 13, 14, and 15 which were all lined with pines. Most of the holes on the course are tree lined making it very tight in places. Not a very long course but will definitely be back!
We had a fantastic day at Swindon in September. In the morning the condition of the course garnered several favourable comments - particularly the excellent condition of the greens. I had the pleasure of playing with two members from Enville who both agreed that Swindon's greens were in much better condition than theirs, which is high praise indeed given that they recently held the Open qualifier there. We look forward to returning next year, one of the highlights of my away calender year.
Played Swindon for the first time 24/4/08 and was impressed. The course is a toughie. All holes apart from 1 and 2 are in the trees and if you go in them theres only 1 shot - sideways!! Greens were good for the time of year, if a litle slow. But a great course and well worth playing. Take a chainsaw!!
Played at Swindon in Aug 06. Exceptional course with plenty of variety. A midlands Grantown or Boat of Garten. A bargain on 2F1 for a days golf (£18). Starter very friendly. Catering staff seemed to have changed just before we visited, and the lunchtime meal portions were piffling and poor vfm. Shame as this was the only disappointment, but a local favourite and we will definately return.
Played this course on 01/08/04. Hadn't played the course for a few years, fut it was in fantastic condition (notwithstanding a little repair work being done on greens 3 and 17). Excellent all round test of you game - the fairways are such that you need to have control off the tee or you're in trouble. Highlight was my 3 on 6 but thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Definitely on my list for potential membership when finances (and wife!) allow.
played today 08/09/03 didnt need a tee time but felt we needed one as on the first tee was backing up.this course will test all your skills and you do need a game plan . my advise is as follows take long irons 3,4,5 off the tee where the tree lines come into play, open fairways 1st,3rd,5th,7th,11th,13th,16th,17th and 18th you can take a wood.the fairways were very burnt and the greens werent up to standard as a member told us that they had been alot better a couple of weeks ago.we paid £20 for a round but felt they should reduce this as we have played better courses for the money.
A COURSE THAT WILL TEST ALL FACETS OF YOUR GAME, INCLUDING YOUR PATIENCE!!! I'VE PLAYED IT NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE YET TO MASTER IT. MOST OF THE FAIRWAYS ARE TREE LINED AND EVEN WITH A DECENT TEE SHOT YOU CAN STILL HAVE NO SHOT TO THE GREEN AS YOUR VIEW OF THE GREEN IS TOTALLY BLOCKED OUT BY THE TREES. TO SCORE WELL YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR TEE SHOTS IN PLAY AND REALLY PLOT AND GRIND YOUR WAY ROUND. BELIEVE ME IT IS VERY EASY TO BECOME FRUSTRATED AS IT IS NOT ALWAYS THE FAIREST OF COURSES. HOLES TO NOTE ARE THE PAR 5 5TH, PAR 4 9TH WHICH PRESENTS A REALLY DIFFICULT TEE SHOT AND THE PAR 5 16TH. IF YOU PLAY TO YOUR HANDICAP ROUND HERE YOU HAVE PLAYED REALLY WELL. MY ADVICE WOULD BE LEAVE YOUR DRIVER AT HOME!!!
