5 reviews of The Eden Golf Course

Played for the first time in June as part of an annual trip, and have to say I left disappointed for a number of reasons. Clubhouse is very nice, which makes the fact that they have a pro shop the size of a broom cupboard all the more difficult to comprehend. I have to agree with the last 2 posters. Fairways lacked any real definition, tee beds and fairways were ok, bunkers had little sand in them. The greens were the worst we'd played all week - very patchy and bare in places, giving an extremely uneven roll and, as a result, leaving you with no real confidence in putting. Struggling to think of a stand out signature hole - possibly the 1st? 17? Not really sure. We had organised a simple meal for 24 of us after our round, and it was truly woeful. The saddest part of the day, however, was on the course, where I encountered one of the rudest people I've ever come across on a golf course. Having waved a two-ball through mid hole as soon as they were behind us, one of the players hit his approach to 7 from memory into the trees. He and his playing partner went to look for the ball some 15 yards from where it had entered, a point I politely made to them as I walked across to pinpoint the position. I was spoken to rudely - his exact reply was; "I don't think so, I think you'll find I know my own course a hell of a lot better than you ever will". My playing partners and I could hardly believe the reply as it was totally uncalled for. Not suprisingly, they failed to find the ball, looked at us in disgust before storming off without looking where I had directed them to, leaving me the pleasure of retireving it when they had walked on. The most depressing part of the whole sorry saga was that upon returning to the Clubhouse, I asked the "gentleman" concerned if we had upset him, only to be completely ignored, and he walked away muttering under his voice having clearly heard me. Looking at the photgraphs on the wall, it was very sad to see this was a pretty recent past Captain - what a truly awful image of his Club he has given to visitors. My opinion now is that it's a course that could be ok if in better condition, but I doubt I'll ever return because of the atrocious way in which a past Captain acted. I wouldn't be prepared to part with another penny of my money considering my experience, and would actively advise others to think twice before visiting. As an official of my own Club, I'm aware of the possible ramifications of leaving negative feedback on review sites like this, and do so very rarely. On this occassion, however, I feel it is justified and should act as a warning to future visitors and, hopefully, the Club itself. I'm aware of the need to make all visitors as welcome as possible, as experiences like this can only have an adverse effect going forward both in terms of reputation and, potentially, financially. The Club should be very concerned at the actions of a supposedly "esteemed" member, as it can only reflect poorly on the Club as a whole.

we played at eden on the monday 9th may as the first day of our society trip to the lakes. upon arrival the clubhouse and course look very impressive and we had a friendly greeting from all the bar staff. before play i decided to hit a few golf balls at the driving range and i have to say they were the worst balls i have ever hit on a driving range. the course itself is an 18 hole course that has apparently been used by the senior tour in the past but i was very disappointed by it. there are lots of lovely views but the course felt like it hadnt been cared for much, with tee boxes being scruffy, the fairways werent cut to any sort of standard and the greens were terrible. they were very bumpy and patchy and for the middle of may they were a massive let down. i can imagine the course being a really good test as it can play long with any sort of wind but its a course i wouldnt return too in the future. overall 5 out of 10

Our opening course on our 5 day Lakes tour. We played this on Monday 09 May 2011, sunny ut windy conditions. Clubhouse very nice, not much of a pro shop which is always a shame. The course itself is relatively flat with some decent holes, we booked after all the rave reviews and reports about how well manicured it was, but this was not the case on the Monday. very little definition on the fairways, greens were the worst we played on all week (not saying they were bad) just nowhere near as good as others the same week. Would I go back? possibly, but with Carlisle and Penrith on the way to the Lakes we would probably plum for one of those next time. Still a good course in its own

played the eden a couple of times, going back this year, a very enjoyable course with generous but shaped fairways, quite "American" in its design, perfect for golf outings with mixed ability golfers

Played it a couple of times and was very impressed. Very "American" in its layout - more picturesque that difficult - had may best round of the year at it!! Suitable for all levels of golfer.
