Excellent course. Very friendly staff and clientele. Although a small (32 par) 9 hole course, it's actually surprisingly tricky, being built on the side of a hill. This makes it harder than you think it's going to be until you get used to some of the fairways sloping left to right/right to left. A good test of your skills, but I'd still recommend it to beginners, as it's such an approachable, unintimidating place. Well designed, and has an incredibly rich heritage going back well over a hundred years. Drains very well indeed for this typically inclement part of the world. Absolutely fine after rain, and yet, it never gets rock hard in dry conditions. An absolute gem in this regard. Greenkeepers know their stuff, and do a very good job looking after the greens. A fun course with good views. If you're ever on holiday around these parts, definitely give it a visit. Humble, but worthy. I used to live in North Devon, and this was the main course I used until I relocated to the Southeast last year and, I must say, I do miss it.
A lovely course set high up with some stunning views across Devon. Course was in nice condition and a couple of the greens were very fast - Notably the 5th which is only a short par 3 but you must get your ball below the hole off the tee. The 4th was a really good long par 3. The course is quite hard to find (Take signs towards the swimming pool in Torrington). My only gripe would be that I only had time to play 9 holes but there was no reduction in green fee (£15) hence my low value for money rating.
