I received a voucher to play the course as a gift. Due to poor weather and subsequent course closures the expiry ran close. The clubhouse manager was contacted and I was reassured it would be ok to play. This was not backed up by the pro shop to my disappointment. Never got the chance to use the voucher even compromising a quiet 9 holes on a Monday evening. I feel a certain amount of snobbery regarding voucher users so beware ! never had the chance to play and probably never will !!

A cracking course that offers a decent challenge although not the longest tee to green. As placement is key then a few more penalising hazards may help you keep it tight. Greens are superb, members friendly and the pro is most helpful. I have arranged a corporate golf day there in May and they have been very helpful and priced themselves at the ideal mark for the challenge that the course poses.

I am a junior member at Upton By Chester Golf club and personally i think it is great. The course is short however provides a good test for any golfer. If you hit it straight you will score well but if you don't you will pay the consequences. Clubhouse has a great atmosphere and the bar upstairs is a great addition to the place. If you get the time come and play here!

The most helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to see that we enjoyed our stay in the area and during our time on the course. Even though we didn't stay at the hotel, we were treated with respect and this, we found very pleasing! The course played well and offered up a few challenging holes that even some single figure golfers would appreciate. Bear in mind that we were there in January. The 19th had decent food on offer and friendly staff to serve it up at reasonable prices too. Thank you guys!!

My stag weekend in Chester was brilliant,6 of us played 18 holes at Upton by Chester on Saturday 15th January 2011, booked two tee times at 5.45pm Friday 14th.The pro Steve was very help full pleasant and polite, as was every one at the course. members where very friendly, bar staff gorgeous, green staff polite and most importantly the course was in great condition even though we are still only in January. cant say one bad thing about the place, we will certainly be going back in the near future. one more thing Steve ( the pro) even went out of his way to book us a go karting session on the evening, cheers mate and thanks for everything, pity more golf clubs dont take the same attitude as UPTON BY CHESTER GOLF CLUB.

A friend and I played at upton on the 8th of october this is a little gem of a course. Steve the pro did a great job of making us feel welcome as did the members we met, Though this is only 5,807 yards the fairways are quite tight and well tree lined. You have to think about your shots, greens were quite good with some subtle breaks. Six par threes the best was the 15th 200 yards over a lake. We had a great day and will go back and play this course again next time we are in Chester.

This is a pleasant tidy and mainly tree lined course and although relatively short in total yardage is still a fair test for the average golfer. The six par three holes provide interest particularly the 191 yard 15th and the 233 yard 17th. The greens were firm on this occasion with some testing 'reads'. Unless accurate driving can be guaranteed, I suggest selective use of the driver is essential - after my round, the trees have less branches. The food was good and members and staff friendly.

A mature well put together course that makes the most of the limited space it has, being so close to the city centre. The course is well maintained a particular highlight being the quality of the fairways. The greens are a little slow I think due to the fact that they are newly constructed but as they mature will probably provide a real challenge due to the undulations. Holes 9,12,13,14,15,18 are the best 1/2 dozen holes, in my opinion, and a real joy to play. I'm a member of this club but would suggest that the green fee is good value for visitors As with so many courses in the area the members are friendly and welcoming the beer is good and the food is not so great.

Upton-by-Chester is a course with multiple difficult par three's. Its parkland style suites its location and its tight fairways put an emphasis on straight driving. The new greens which are now fully open after renovation (during 2002-2004) provide an excellent test and offer some extremelly challenging pin positions. The course offers excellent value for money and the nineteenth hole has one of the warmest atmospheres you can ever hope to experience. It is an excellent club for both the full time player and the social member. Hit the ball straight and you can make a decent score, but stray off line and the round can turn into a totally different ball game.
