Blowing a gale and the the odd heavy downpour but what a course. Having played it in March of this year to return and find the greens in excellent condition fairways superb. The bloke who greeted us was true in everything he said. Food and welcome were fantastic. Can't wait to play it again in the summer months when the greens will be even quicker than they were. A REAL HIDDEN GEM! kratos golf society.
I don't think I've ever enjoyed being beaten up by a course more! A howling wind and the threat of rain made this spectacular moorland course a real challenge last Friday evening. Our opening salvoes on the downhill par 3 all went well but the wind really makes you think about your approach strategy troughout the round. On paper, 10 par 4s under 350 yards should yield quite a few pars but few are as straightforward as you might imagine with uphill drives, narrow fairways, many more trees and ponds than I expected for a moorland course, 'sucker' bunkers and ditches to keep you honest. First class quality tee beds with firm, running, undulating fairways and quick greens (although hard to hold) were backed up by a series of picturebook views all around the course. Don't overdo your tee shots on 13 and 17 as they're both severe doglegs and the fairways run out quite quickly. Having a gale at our face at the 100yd postage stamp 14th with a terrifying wind turbine just behind us saw our fourball limp away with only 5 points between us. It will be worth going back to play that hole alone. My only regret is that the Pro wasn't at home so we couldn't get a strokesaver - this is a course that will reward you if you had the company of a member first time out. I'd thoroughly recommend this course as a most enjoyable challenge. We'll be back.......
Played here only last week and the course has stood upto the wet weather very well. Very intersting course as the wind can change everything. Breath taking views and a very interesting golf course.
played the course this week and i was not dissapointed. the course is in perfect condition and it has the best greens and fairways in the area. if you fancy a round of golf that will give you a good challenge then this is the perfect course, the location of the course means that the weather always plays a big part and will have you concentrating the complete round or you'll be in trouble. great views everywhere you look and a very good course layout with some very inviting holes to get a good score. i will be playing this course alot more and look forward to doing so.
Played yesterday , conditions cloudy, windy with two short , sharp showers during our round. Spectacular first, which, into the strong wind, I used the driver and was still a couple of yards shy of the green ! A lot of the holes, though not of particularly great length looking at the score card, are uphill, downhill and undulating, with quite a few holes giving you lies with the ball above or below your feet. So quite a decent test. Overall a tidy course, one criticism would be that there's "next-tee" signs on some parts of the course, others leave you wandering around aimlessly guessing where the next tee is. Also , there's quite a gap between some greens and tees so be ready for a good walk. On the second, do not go to the right of the fairway marker - best left side, on the 13th, do not go too far over the marker, otherwise you will out-drive the boundary of the course, which you can't see over the hill, the hole is a dog-leg left, same on the 17th, sharp dog leg left, again, don't be too big off the tee ! certianly one we'll play again next year - I can't comment on the off course facilities as I did not use them ! The 2-4-1 green fee is fair, the standard fee of £40 would be a bit OTT.
Arrived to participate in the Stables Leisure Club golf society. First impressions were goo, beautiful views from which ever point you stand. No driving range to warm up, although there was a practice range. However, this was dissapointing and was up hill. The course itself was breathtaking, immaculate greens, fairways and tee off areas. challenging holes. Some fairways are steep banked, so even the most skillful player struggles to keep the ball on the fairway. Club house was very poor i must say, coffee making facilities were bare and food required a long wait, meaning we missed our original tee off time. Overall a good days golf, 2 warnings though; if its sunny wear plenty of sunscreen and watch out fo horseflies. Will definitely be going back
A beautiful course with superb views across the west pennine moors. The fairways and greens are always in immaculate condition and it is good test of golf; not too long but quite tight in places. The members are very friendly and the whole club has a great feel to it.
A thinkers course. A straight drive is the order of the day, otherwise you will find yourself playing from the long wispy stuff! Greens and fairways were in great nick, and the sun was shining. Although a short course, don't expect a low score, especially if the wind is blowing. The first hole from an elevated tee, I was advised by a member, can play anything from a 9 iron to a 3 wood depending on the strength and directionof the wind. Great views. Friendly members and staff. Bar meals a little limited. Overall a great day out. Definitely one to play again.

Played during a dry weekend in January and found the greens were very wet but still consistent, the previous pitch marks (mostly repaired) were everywhere. Great views but a few funny smells! Quite a short course with quite a few 300/320 yard par 4's, so a good drive and wedge are the order of the day, but the many undulations and few sloping faiways made the approaches a bit trickier. 6 par 3's on the course (par 69), 4 of which were either 9 irons, pitching or sand wedges! Some nice picturesque holes but also a few bland ones. Will play there again, but maybe in the summer once a year.
Friday 10th May 2002. A nice course with spectacular views over Lancashire. Friendly welcome and advise from pro shop. If it's windy ... watch it!
