Played here October ,2012. My first time back here for about 20 years. Pleasant ,tree lined parkland course although a little on the uninspiring side. Afterwards ,it's hard to remember some of the holes as they seem to blend in to one another. Fairly easy walking. Quite a fair course ,with 4 par 5's. Good bunkering & overall nice condition. Large clubhouse & a raucous atmosphere in the bar afterwards. A course that's worth playing but maybe not one that i'd be desperate to play again next week. Kevin B.
One of the challenging golf courses I've been to. It provides challenge for different skill levels. Aside from the well manicured fairways, accommodations and amenities are the best. Hospitality from the staff is one of a kind. It's like I never been away from home which is the US.
This is a fantastic course. Tight driving holes that test the good golfer, but enough width on the tree lined fairways to tempt the higher handicap players. Greens are true, medium quick in speed and have some interesting breaks, you will need to take care if you are putting back to front in the summer on the 10th. Clubhouse facilities are 1st class, always seems to be a lively friendly atomosphere, and a great menu. One of the best finishing holes you will find anywhere, can be a real card wrecker if you dont get your tee shot away. This is a real Golfers Club and course.
I just thought I would add another review as have just finished playing on a balmy Saturday afternoon. Thisis just a fantastic place to play golf, right from the start where the changing facilities are first class and the pro shop could not have been more helpfull,my game was on spec and they managed to get us out at 1.00 just before a competition,we followed a group of two parents and two kids, who kindly let usthrough after two holes, therafter we almost had the course to ourselves. The greens were just about as good as I have played this year, true and fast.Every hole is slightly different cutting through woods and nothing is tricked up,a credit to its designer all those years ago.The final few holes include an interesting blind shot par three with the hole in a large dip and some great par 5's. The place appears to have a very very friendly atmosphere,we saw a couple of very young kids chipping and putting on the fantastic putting green and the bar area was full and spilling out onto the balcony, mistakenly I walked into the bar with my golf shoes on,but was politely and correctly infromed of my mistake,no hint of arrogance. In a nutshell this is a great golf course and club to match, playable for all levels of golfer.
This is a must for all suburban golfers, great track that has vastly improved to be an "up there " course to be played. Very fiendly and properly run clubhouse with truly brilliant food after for our society visit.Greens and layout excellent,go play it soon Birkdale
Played the course in late April,it was in good condition for the time of year. I played well so my view may be blinkered but I found it a lovely course with lots of great holes NB no credit cards in pro shop or club house Play it if you get a chance
I ha a very enjoyable time and this course is far better than all those i have ever been on including a very famous one in scotland. I know all you golf enthuisiasts know where i am talking about.
Be aware that green fees are $45 per round, not the £25-30 that are mentioned on this site. This price certianly puts this course in the premium category!!
Very Good played the course in novemeber so the weather was not ideal first eight holes in the fog but course was in excellent condition very good greens although the pins were very close to the front edges sometimes less then three or four feet ( is that legal). Also they have winter tees for visitors (only one mat)which does shorten the course a fair bit but it is still a very good round of golf although a bit expensive at £38 per round. The memebers were very freindly, we had the club captain behind us and took some time to speak to us even though we held him up in fog whilst trying to find the pin. All in all a great course but probably better value in the week. I will definately be coming back in the summer!!
I am a member at West Herts, and I would like to say that it is very awarding to hears such great comments made about this course. It can be a very challenging course, which will punish anyone, who trys to play golf without thinking about each and every hole as the first hole of his or her round. I feel very lucky to be apart of this club, knowing that it is one of the best in Hertfordshire
Superb course. Hit on this course yesterday after perusing this site for somewhere to go on a day off. I can only say it's probably one of the finest courses I have played in and around the London area in the last 10 years. Magnificent condition, every hole was memorable and a true and fair test of golf. I must also add that for a course of this quality, I would have fully expected the "usual" treatment sometimes handed out to a casual visitor (which I wouldn't have had a problem with - as a member myself elsewhere, I fully appreciate the need to protect a course and club on behalf of the membership), but I was made most welcome by the friendly and informative staff in the pro shop. All in all a super course, in immaculate condition, in a beautiful tranquil setting.
Played this course last summer - magnificent setting, some challenging par 4s - buy a course planner. Remember also to bring cash - no cards were accepted in the pro shop! Other than that a wonderful day out, although beaten by a local 12 yr old playing to 7 over par!
We played here in July - for the true bargain rate of £25.The course is brilliant , the condition was excellent , the clubhouse has everthing you could want and the staff are extremely helpfull and freindly. I would highly recommend a day out at West Herts to any one thinking of arranging a golf day out , this course is comparible with any of you Wentworths or Sunnigdales and a lot more freindly and all for 1/4 of the cost - enjoy !!!
IT JUST GOES TO SHOW,YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRAVEL MILES OUT INTO THE COUNTRY TO FIND A WELL GROOMED AND CHALLENGING GOLF COURSE. IT ALSO HAS SOME VERY INTERESTING HOLES TOO.
This course is nothing but a well hidden little gem.\r\n\r\nat 20 for weekdays you are talking best bargin of the century.\r\n\r\nThe course is well kept with challenging and\r\ninteresting holes well worth a visit.##
