6 reviews of Westhoughton Golf Club

Just played the course, suffering a bit after 3 days of proper Lancashire weather with a few bunkers full of water, but on the whole in great nick. The course presents a fair challenge and has some great 'risk/reward' approaches that can make your day or wreck your card. Most tee shots on the first 9 are quite tight and the 'new' 9 will be great when the landscape is fully developed. Greens were hard and true. Friendly reception from the secretary and members and I look forward to returning sometime soon. Two requests - first, can you get a course map/guide printed please as there are plenty of blind approaches with unforseen hazards (especially the well-placed bunkers that constantly caught us out); second - yardage markers on the new 9 were not as obvious as they could have been. Good fun and good value for money. No 'pro shop' but that didn't detract from a good day out.

Just made myself a member, I have found the course to be a little shorter than I would have liked, but it is a tight course, and you have to be straight, the back nine will get better as the years go by, probably needs more trees on some of the holes, however the members are very friendly and sociable, I have invited a number of friends to play the course and all have expressed good reviews, You have to accept that the back nine is new and therefore a little bland the bar area is homely and the scran on sunday after the Comp is pretty good, all in all I am looking foreward to improving my Golf over the coming years at Westhoughton

Played the full 18 this week. Front 9 still tricky and very good, back 9 is just a farmers field with some tees and greens, fairways very hard, greens impossible to stop on, very bland, and when played in the wind virtually impossible to stay on the fairways. Will possibly be good in 20yrs time when the trees have grown and the fairways have had time to settle.

it is a very short course but very tight so you must stay straight off the tee. when the greens are firm and the wind gets up in can be very difficult.
