Have played here twice, and whilst it's a pleasant course, it's not really that challenging for the mid-handicapper or below. Most holes are pretty open, and you have to hit the ball very wide to get in trouble. Good greens and overall condition, but there are better courses around.
played here yesterday (friday 6th)under very difficult ,wet conditions. the course was still playing great though. it was sadly not a completed round as all the guys in our society decide the weather was just too bad. to their credit the club has very generously said we can go back and play our society day again. the golf we did get in was good , the food we had was good and the club made us very welcome, cant wait to go back, hopefully in good weather as this is a great course, many thanks.
played on a late winter deal...fantastic value, great condition, and for winter hardly any mud. Course plays fairly long, but it gives you a chance, plenty of par5's and tricky par 3's I played by a mile worst in our group but would go back in a hearbeat. Friendly pro shop, friendly bar, made in an excellent venue and day http://www.birkdale-trophies.co.uk
Played this course on a weekend twilight deal - good value at £25. It's a very well maintained, challenging, fairly long course. To score well you need to keep it straight as a number of the fairways are tight and tree lined on both sides. At the same time there are a few 400yd plus par 4's so you can't get away with using an iron off the tee too many times. The strength and direction of the wind could make or break a round. Hitting into the wind even the short par 3 3rd and 17th played long and needed a mid-iron to reach. But then with the wind at your back the par 5th 18th is well reachable in two. Really impressed with this course and will definitely go back.
A good tee shot from the 1st tee means you can enjoy the great views over the Chiltern Hills. The course is a good test, without being too tough. Practically all the holes are well defined by semi mature trees, which creates some nice dog legs. There is a good mix of hole length - I used every club in my bag. The converted barn makes for a smart clubhouse that serves an excellent pint. Overall, well worth a visit.
GREAT COURSE, FRIENDLY STAFF, GREAT FOOD, AND A SUPERB DAY ALTOGETHER.
