Played Whitby on 4 June 2015. Got a discount via caravan site I was staying at across the road at sandfield. So affordable golf at £15.. I emailed pro just to ask when would be best time to play on my own. But in general course never looks overly busy. I really enjoyed my game here. Wasn't too windy but I can imagine some days it will be mental. Course was in good condition. Some challenging holes. In particular the 6th and 18th where you drive over a considerable ravine. Trust in your driver and you will be fine. Give it a go if you are in area. Excellent course.
we played whitby on the first day on our first ever trip to scarborough on the 28th april and i have to say i personally thought it was a great little course. it starts off with a short par 4 to ease you into the round and kind of carries on in the same vein really where most holes make you pick your way around. there are to many holes of note to mention but the 2 holes that cross over the ravine have to be my 2 favourites. probably not the best holes for those that dont drive the ball a long way as one of our fourball found out but none the less both great holes in their own way. the greens were superb and very receptive which was probably helped by the fact they had some good rainfall in the days leading up to our trip. great views from many parts of the course and lovely weather on the day helped a lot along with a 75 from me only topping my day off really. no catering in the clubhouse but we were informed of this before we booked up. well worth a trip and somewhere i would play again anytime! overall 7.5 out of 10
First course on our April 2014 trip. Canny little track, some decent holes and no doubt some lovely views but we had a bit fog so was hard to tell! The bridge you have to cross over twice after playing a couple of holes is a bit tight for trolley's especially the newer ones took me ages to get over lol No catering or bar facilities on a Monday mind, we knew about this so was ok. Pro shop not much in but the essentials. Worth a trip for sure and we would definitely play again. Only £50 for a 4 ball on a monday too.
Played on a sunny tuesday all day in July. A cracking linksy style course with tons of charachter about it. Very welcoming pro, members and clubhouse staff. 11 holes are from the origonal course on the cliff edge, these holes are fantastic and feature stunning views of Whitby itself and out to sea. A couple of daunting drives over ravines and along cliff sides means you have to be reasonably accurate off the tee. The holes that have been moved over the road due to coastal erosion arent quite as nice and have a parkland feel to it but they are still nice enough and will only get better as they mature. Not the toughest course but it was quite calm when we played-can imagine it being a brute in windy conditions. Fairways nicelly manicured and greens are excellent for the location. Well worth a play at £27 for all day. Cant wait to return.
The warm welcome started from the Pro and extended all the way to the bar staff and members. Despite the heavy rains that have fallen, the greens were lush and very receptive, although a little slow. The fairways would put any top golf club to shame. The new holes have settled and have continued with the chararcter of the course with any shot missing the fairway punishing you with the need for a short iron and thereby testing your short game. For £12 a game after 4pm and only £6 with a member, an absolute must. Outstanding for value for any golfer regardless of their handicap.
29th May 2005, an excellent round of golf on a course with a couple of daunting holes. However, I must agree with other comments in respect of the holes and the placing thereof, there may be ongoing alterations but it did make for a confusing mid threee or four holes. The flags on the greens didn't help much being either red, yellow or white, with the odd blue thrown in. Aside from that excellent and I will be visiting again well done Whitby Golf Club and many thanks.
10th June 2004. The course is in very good condition though the holes "across the road" were not quite to such a high standard and appear to be undergoing some kind of modification. We struggled to find the 13th tee, then found the hole had been shortened by about 200yds and play was off a mat - I'm presuming this is a temporary measure. The Pro and Club Steward were both very welcoming and at £11 a round with a 2-fore-1 voucher the course offers excellent value.
An excellent days golf played in mid February, the course was in excellent condition despite it's exposed location. The staff were friendly and helpfull and I will certainly be playing the course again.
