Woodsome Hall Golf Club

Played the course on the 29th April. I enjoyed the day and the course in general but was disappointed with the condition of the greens. Still they were preparing for summer so shouldn't complain too much. Overall a great day and tough test of your game.

I, along with 7 other members of my club - Scarborough North Cliff - visited and played this course for the first time in the Rabbits Open Day on Sunday 10th August 2003. I have to say that we all, as Rabbits (ie 16 - 28 handicappers) struggled with the course but only because it is a very good test of golf and it was a very hot afternoon (to say nothing of playing off the white tees!) The course itself is superbly presented but VERY HILLY! So beware those of you who read this and are less fit than you would like. The uphill 12th (a short par 4) followed by the never ending climb up to the 13th tee left 1 or 2 feeling lightheaded. Having said that, the course makes wonderful use of the natural setting in which it has been created and then of course there is the Clubhouse - a country house of some distinction and character with oak panelled rooms and a fountained internal courtyard. One can imagine Lord Cromwell or similar sitting in the afternoon sunshine....... One other big plus (and quite unique in our experience of playing in many Rabbits Open Days over the past 4 years) - there's draught Tetley's at half way house! Our overall opinion......the course is better for knowing as there are a few occasions when shots into the green are blind (the first for instance where you go through the green at your peril) but overall we were most impressed and fully intend to return next year.
