Where many current architects would contrive to produce an up and down course of no particular merit, the great Harry Colt used the existing downland here to conjure up a typically thoughtful creation where you are constantly asked to work with meandering slopes to play creative golf. Worthing is a golf course for real golfers and it always surprises me just how well, without adopting an unfriendly approach, it manages to stay under the radar.

Played here August ,10 . Played both courses .Very tranquil with good views . The LOWER course is the main course here & i would say that it's a worth playing course as opposed to a must play . It's hard walking & hilly in places. For me ,it didn't really get going until the 9th & then you have a run of high quality holes (with elevated tee shots to dropdown fairways) to the 16th .The last 2 were not of the same calibre & a bit of a weak finish. Excellent par 3's , well conditioned (although the fairways haven't completely recovered from the dry summer) & large ,fast, slopey greens where it's difficult to get it close from long range. The UPPER course isn't really a serious golf course (5,211 yards) with only one par 4 over 400 yards .It's also not as well conditioned as the lower but it does have excellent views over the town & out to sea (the club is set back a bit from the coast). Also, the 16th green is near the clubhouse & 17 sends you back out again. It's just about o.k for a knockabout. The last 2 holes on both courses feel as if they've been re-routed at some stage. Everyone we came across was welcoming , we had an enjoyable day here in perfect weather & the overall feel here was pleasant but tiring. Kevin B.

Played a few weeks ago and was fairly impressed. I haven't heard much about Worthing golf course but have family near by so decided to play it and found it very enjoyable. The condition was superb, the views over the south downs and sea was lovely and the general layout of the holes were great and there arn't many golf courses you can say that i didn't hear the sound of a car. I found the par 3's a little dissapointing and feel with all the lovely area around the course they could have made them a little more interesting, but in general was very glad i played.

Played in September 2004, with low overcast weather, but that didn't detract from the fantastic setting for this course. Great variety of holes, which provide a great test of your golfing repertoire. Course condition was excellent, greens true and fast. Would definitely like to return and I'd recommend paying this place a visit.

excellent downland golf. All putts roll towaeds the sea, even if they don't look as though they should.Par 3's are all challenging.Quite tiring.
