Airdrie was the first local club course I played since moving to Scotland in 2006. The more I've played others, the more I've come to appreciate Airdrie's unassuming quality. It is routed on two basic levels, one lower (the one closest to the clubhouse) and the other higher. "Dandy Hill" (#5) connects the two levels. Once up Dandy (called, I believe, "Heart Attack hill" by locals) the course is fairly level and easy to walk. Dandy is dandy. It's not as difficult as it looks on first play. (Then, it looks like an impossible par 4 at 382 yards UP-hill). But good golf courses use "appearance" to their advantage. It's part of quality design. After conquering such holes, one gets such a sense of accomplishment. Both the upper and lower reaches of Airdrie have good layouts. Not the typical back and forth. Each hole brings interest. Some are downright unique, like the 4th, which at 120 yards, introduces more fun per yard (downhill, over high trees and a stream, to a lovely green which may be hard to hit!) than might be thought possible. I think it's the 16th Rookery which sweeps downhill (returning home), over trees and stream to a lovely finish. Definitely not average. Unbelieveable tee shot! In between these featured holes, many others challenge the player with plenty of chances to test out one's quality shots. Airdrie is a good play for the money. Count on it. You'll go home smiling.

Airdrie has an interesting layout and some very good and testing holes - 5,13 and 18 are particularly tough pars. This is balanced out by some which are fairly simple. The welcome from the pro was exceptionally friendly, as were the members that I met on the course. I have the feeling that this club has an excellent social scene. When I played the course was in pretty average condition. In top condition this is a course I would recommend.
