I had the great pleasure of playing this course on the 30th May 2011. This is truly a "hidden gem". The fairways and the rough were well cared for and the greens were first class - it wasn't their fault that I couldn't make a better score! For a small town club, I thought the clubhouse itself was very good and the catering whilst very reasonably priced could have been a bit better. The only criticisms I would have of the course are 1) the bunkers - very poor, no sand but a form of gravel, and haven't been dug out in a long time and 2) the absence of fairway distance markers visible from anywhere on the fairway. Other than those two I would recommend this very good and testing course to all honest golfers.

I do not normally respond to this type of review after playing a golf course. However, I have played Blyth this morning wth a friend and I am absolutely astounded at the review that Mr. Bradley hs made. I can only speak as I find and I can assure you that my experience of my game at Blyth is in complete contrast to Mr Bradley's. I was welcomed in a friendly manner and the course given the time of year was in excellent condition, albiet 4 winter greens were in operation. They certainly did not spoil our game. I thought the greens were in outstanding condition given the winter we havjust had. The locker rooms I will admit are in need of referbishment but they were clean and tidy. Another comment I would like to make is why hould Mr Bradley fel he should have got the third person in his party a a reduced rate when he had one 2 for 1 voucher. Sounds to me that this was at the bottom of his unkindly review. I will certainly be coming back to Blyth for a game in the summer.

I think the comments Mr Bradley submitted may be a little harsh. I have played this course a number of times over the last few years and it is getting better. The greens are good (although no where near the best in the county as they claim). The fairways are good, decent in the winter and summer, although can brown during the summer months. I personally thought the bunkers were the worst in the county and a number of tee boxes were very shabby, especially the 9th. The course presentation could be improved with rakes in each bunker and unfortunately tee box signs look like they have been vandalised. I guess facilities within the club house could be improved, but I do feel money would be better spent on bunkers and tee boxes. I tend to agree with Mr Bradley regarding staff around the pro shop, not very welcoming at all. A course that is getting better each year but I feel there are many better in the county.

Whatever good report you have read about this course don,t be fooled. I have just played Blyth on a fine albeit cold day. We booked on to use a two for one ticket which is based on day rate but because there were three of us we could only use one ticket and were obliged to pay the full rate for the other which made the day a little expensive. We were met at the club house by one of the most unfriendly people I have ever had the misfortune to meet who made us feel as if we were intruders. The course fell far below our expectations the fairways were scabby and in need of water and the greens were badly in need of a cut and dressing. They were extremely slow and bumpy and we got the impression that the club was living on its past (a long time past)reputation. Having paid what I feel was extortionate money for the course we were pretty much obliged to stay for the day and I decided to rent a buggy for the afternoon. We finished our first round at 1.15pm and retired to the club house to eat The catering was not very good, I will say no more on that. Halfway through our lunch the guy from the club house came in and asked us to hurry (this after twenty minutes) as someone else needed the buggy at 6pm.It turned out the real reason was he knocked off at 6pm.as we later found out after rushing round. There are no sur grapes here as the members were very friendly and helpful and I got the feeling they felt the same about the old guy as we did.The changing rooms are abysmal with nowhere to hang clothes and only one shower and not a good one at that.
