Plyed on 2 March 2011, Very good course, although still a bit wet underfoot which was strange as it had not rained for a while. This makes me think the course does not drain too good. The club operate a shoot system for tee times which in this day and age is antiquated in my opininon especially for those making long journeys. The course itself is great to play and a one I shall return to in the summer months, the back 9 just shaded the front 9 for me, the only let down in my opinion was the 18th, these holes should be good ones to leave a lasting memory of what should of been a good days golfing, but the 18th at Durham City is pretty straight forward which is a shame as the rest of the course as I said is really good, am I being picky? maybe but other courses I know also have poor finishing holes, might just be a personal thing on my part, but the opening hole is really good.

myself and a friend played here on the 2nd March and we both enjoyed the course considering the time of year and the recent weather we have had. the course was very wet with the greens being especially damp and soggy underfoot. the course is set amongst a small industrial estate but you cant see any of this once you get to the course itself but its a strange drive in!! we had a drink in the clubhouse before play which was comfortable and gave great views over the first tee box and the 18th green. the course itself is parkland and starts off with a downhill par 5 which should be a good scoring hole (especially in the summer when the fairways have a little roll on them) before moving onto an uphill par 3. the course is in 2 distinctive halves with the back 9 propably edging it in my opinion but as i have already said it was a nice course which i would like to play in the summer. my only real gripe would be the fact we only played 17 holes as one of the greens was being spiked. this wouldnt be an issue but when i spoke to the pro in the morning he assured me the course was fully open which persuaded us to do the 80 mile round trip. this will be reflected in my overall score. overall rating 7 out of 10

Played Durham City on 17/07/07. Course was in absolutely fantastic condition. I have played Durham several times over the last 10 years and it continue to impress me every time I return. The tree lined fairways define each hole and the greens were quicker than I have known them ever be. Great hospitality in the bar and improved changing facilities only added to what I already knew...Durham City I well worth a visit when you are in the North East.
