Played here November ,2010 . Not as good as i was expecting.I didn't find the course that enjoyable. The holes play in two loops of 9 ,firstly down & then along a slope .It's quite a tiring layout due to the above & that several holes felt long ,with long irons in .Also ,it feels a bit up & down in places & the 15th green is by the clubhouse ,so you have to head back out again. It's in a pleasant setting but the course felt more hard work than fun.The holes could play tight in the Summer with firm bounces. Greens were a bit footprinty & with meandering lines but that could be the time of year . The clubhouse is impressive from the outside & overlooks the course from on high ,but inside the casual bar area room didn't feel that relaxing with only a few tables & chairs. This course didn't feel as if it had the usual Harry Colt design touches. The club is very welcoming to visitors. Kevin B.

What looks like a bit of a pushover on paper - 6100 yard, par 69 - is in reality a difficult course to score well on. There is only one par 5 on this course and 4 par 3's and at approx 6100 yards it is certainly not a short course. The key to scoring well on this course is straight driving and accurate approach shots as the fairways are all tight - mostly 20 to 30 yards wide - and the greens are small ie the onus is most definitely on course management. This may appear to be off-putting but don't worry. It has something to cater for everyone's needs and you will not believe that such a pretty course can be situated so close to the city centre. Pick of the bunch is the stroke index 3,430 yard, par 4 second hole. This dog leg left, requires a long drive down the right hand side of a fairway which never gets much wider than 25 yards, followed by a mid iron into a small green that wouldn't go amiss on a par 3, set across the fairway with a gaping bunker to catch anything coming up short left, and deep rough on the right to catch anything long or short on this side. The par 33 front nine is by far the harder of the two loops of nine and if you manage to get through this without dropping too many shots then you will have a pleasurable back nine as it is easier to score there. A bit of a gem in the heart of Birmingham. Go give it a try sometime, believe me you will enjoy it!!
