Played Knott End on a reasonably placid day after a few days heavy rain. The course is relatively short and not a difficult walk. The first 5 holes are played alongside the River Wyre and, if you're playing well, offer up a good chance of getting your round off to "a flyer" with 3 par 4s of under 340 yards. That said, struggle with a slice and your ball is lost to the river or beach forever! Holes 10 and 12 need good drives off the tee, with what I guess is the signature hole short par 3 11th sandwiched in between - 120 yards with out of bounds 5 yards off the green left, water front and out of bounds right, and nothing for being long! A good hole. Back to back par 3s on 14 and 15 need good strikes of the ball regardless of prevailing conditions, with 16 through 18 providing a stiff challenging finish. The course is very well set out and definitely plays as a links course. Fairways were in great condition considering recent wet weather when we played. Bunkers that were in play were tough to get out of due to the compacting of sand with the rain but was only to be expected. Tee beds were well looked after as was the course generally. Our only gripe on the day were the greens. Undulating, challenging, terrific I am sure when in good nick, but hollow-tined very recently, possibly the day before, but worryingly without a sign of any top dressing, making putting with any real skill a lottery. I accept that Clubs must carry out this work from time to time, that isn't my gripe. We rang to see if everything was ok with the course before travelling some distance to play and was assured that bar being a little wet underfoot, it was fine. No mention of the greens either on the phone or upon arrival. As I say, it's a fact of life that they need hollow-tining from time to time, but by the same token I think it's only fair that when the course is clearly nowhere near it's normal standard, this should be reflected in the green fees charged - a full fee of £32 is very fair in normal conditions, but an absolute maximum of £25 should have been charged for the course we were offered. I have marked the "value for money" section based on the greens being in good condition to give a fair reflection, however, despite our disappointment. Off course, the Clubhouse is terrific and everyone was very welcoming. Catering was good and very reasonably priced, as were bar prices generally. We will no doubt return to play this course in its peak condition next summer.

Wind, water and fantastic scenery. A pleasant walk, some Very Challanging holes, but not enough to stop me wanting to go again, and again and again. Very good staff, Excellent club house, and the course was in top notch condition. I would recommend this to anyone regardless of ability.

our fite 5 society played this course after a week of rain on may19th 2006 yet the course was in excellent condition with good greens, the wind made this very tough as it was one of windiest of the year, but this did not stop us enjoying this lovely course for all levels of golfers with nice views and a superb newly built clubhouse with good food and a very friendly welcome from all we met from caterers to staff and members.

I visited this course last year as part of a society trip. The welcome could not have been better. The course was challenging but fair and everyone in our group thouroughly enjoyed themselves. The clubhouse facilities were excellent and I cannot over emphasise the friendly nature of all involved with the club. Thank you for an excellent day out!

Any visitor to Knott End golf club will find an excellent picturesque golf course. Panoramic views, rare for courses on the Fylde coast, of the Pennines to the east and Morecambe Bay to the north. The course is not long, however a slice is not recommended for the opening few holes owing to the close proximity of the Wyre estuary.
