If there are better greens in Surrey, or indeed anywhere, I'd like to see 'em. They are absolutely immaculate: same pace from hole 1 to 18 and not a bare patch or uneven surface anywhere. I'm a crap putter and even I managed to hole a few. I found myself trying to walk carefully so as not to cause any damage! Congratulations to an expert group of greenskeepers. Oh, by the way, course is a great, interesting layout, friendly welcome in the pro shop and all for the princely sum of 14 quid.

I would advise any golfer to come and play Mitcham Golf Course the original “Prince’s”. It’s a mainly flat common land course that makes it accessible to experienced and novice golfers. The head green keeper does a great job with this course and many of our visitors say the greens are the best around. Having been a member of Mitcham Golf Club for a number of years along with my husband, I can truthfully say no matter if you are playing in the sunshine or in poorer weather the course always provides a good test of golf, we have played lots of other courses, but we certainly haven’t mastered Mitcham yet. Come along and find out for yourself. It couldn’t be easier to find, Mitcham Junction train and tram stop are right next door. Lorraine 21.10.14

Played at Beckenham Place Park last week, so had a luxury of comparison when I played at Mitcham. Although not as picturesque as Beckenham and predominately flat fairways, this is still a good course for beginners. Similar to Beckenham in that there is only one par 5, a couple of par 3s and the rest par 4s. With the recent rain, probably don't want to land in heavy rough which seem to occur on the back 9(!) and certainly tested your driving accuracy. One criticism was the layout of the holes with 8 and 9 next to each other and 15 having to tee across another hole, so lots of looking out for golfers. Some holes required crossing a tram lines. Didn't find the proximity of the tram or road a problem. Did also have a slight altercation with another golfer ( not sure whether he was a member) on golf etiquette but this seem to boil down to the closeness of holes. Paid £21, which was just about good value, although would be even better if they carried out a £12 promotion which was the case for every Monday in September.

Mitcham is a world famous golf course (well for anyone near London anyway) with features such as the "Mitcham Bounce" it might not be for everyone but for what it is I think it is one of the best value courses you can play. With easy access by train and the facilities are fine I'd happily have a knock. It is well designed given the location and isn't easy to play to your handicap. Decent food and clubhouse, it isn't Sunningdale but you aren't paying that sort of money so I'm going to give it 4 stars. Have a game there if you are in the area.

The fairways were very rough and patchy, but the greens were in good shape. The course is short and several times holes cross over each other causing a bit of concern and a few hold-ups to play. There's also a lot of noise from the tram and the road. There are a few interesting and challenging holes, and the large breakfast is excellent value, but overall I didn't enjoy the course.

Played for the first time yesterday. Shortish course but it was in very good condition and we were impressed. It's a bit noisy in places, with road traffic and trains adjacent in some parts, but a good course in excellent condition, and good value. Shame about the attitude of the barman in the clubhouse though!

first time i've played here. i found the course quite short even being myself not the longest driver of a ball.overall condition of the fairways and greens was very good considering the amount of rain recently. i can imagine if the fairways firm up and harder greens during summer this would provide more of a challenge.

Played last week, thought the course was great condition, members seemed fine with us no problems, staff great and Mitcham have a great website with an online booking and a new online Proshop. Not many golf clubs have that. Would advise golfers to try this little gem.

Played this course last week. Course has well maintained greens. Few holes could do with netting to prevent players accidentally hitting balls into traffic! Green fees Mon-Fri very good. Unfortunately this course is let down by a large number of members who treat 'pay and play' golfers like dirt. Speaking to a number of other players it seems that the club has a reputation for its rude members. This is the single reason why even though I live nearby, I have not joined. Shame because the staff seem very approachable and friendly...

Played 18 holes this morning for the second time and in the main enjoyed my visit. I know that players such as myself can be annoying to get stuck behind but I honestly lost count of the number of times a ball from the following four came past me. Possibly one of the rude members others have mentioned. Having said this the course is immensely enjoyable and fairly challenging for the high handicapper. The greens are very well kept and fast while the fairways are well defined... you've just got to stay on them! Managed to lose about 8 balls today but will undoubtedly be back again this summer for another 7am round!

Short but interesting course. Greens very good. Had no problems with the pro, but the course layout does mean that you must be constantly aware of other players on other holes. Unfortunately, some players (Sunday afternoon) couldn't manage basic golf ethics, so a few close calls. Otherwise, very enjoyable. Would go again.

PLAYED TWILIGHT ON THE 27/05 - JUST MANAGED TO GET IN 18 HOLES. COURSE IN GREAT CONDITION - SCORED AN 83, MY BEST EVER. PRO HAD GONE HOME, BUT BARMAID WAS FRIENDLY AND TOOK OUR £10 FEES. I CAN'T STOP GRINNING TODAY AFTER LAST NIGHTS ROUND.

Played 10.2.02 and found the course challenging if a little damp. I have to concur with the many other comments that from the first tee the members must be some of the rudest and unwelcoming of any course that I have played. We will go back because the course as a whole was worth it but please do something about those arrogant members, who very nearly spoilt an otherwise excellent morning.

I grew up in the area & played the course reguarly returning this summer for the first time in over 20 years I found the course relatively unchanged, the greens were excelent and the layout challenging . Geof Godfrey the pro remember'd me & my name he is a real assett to the club . the fairways are firm & undulating, stay in them if you want to shoot a low round . I look forward to playing there again in 2002

Played this course yesterday and found it a joy. Definitely challenging for the high handicapper. The greens were in excellant condition but were waterlogged in some parts though. The staff were rude in the bar afterwards but the guy at the pro shop was very chatty and helpful.

A well thought out course where using your head is a must. Not particularly long but a decent challenge nonetheless. The greens are superb. The club appears to have been established soon after the war and it seems that some of its members have probably been there since the early days! I think the culture may have something to do with this.

Enjoyed the course, although the final two holes were a touch dull. would have preferred something a little racier after 16 holes. and yes, the Pro was incredibly rude. i know this site isn't intended for cheap gossip but he really did my party of four in a bad mood from the first tee. 24.4.1

At £15 / round, the course was good value. Greens were slow, but they held their line. Although very flat, the design provided a decent enough challenge. I'll definitely go back.

Unfortunatley, I have to concur with the comment dated 04/05/99. Although the greens etc were favourable, my colleague & I found the Pro less than friendly. Similarly, the members. Likewise, we shall not be returning.

Nice greens, pity about the less-than-friendly members. I won't be back.

A top notch course with super greens, and a friendly Pro. Not completely comprimising fairways, with well designed and placed bunkers. The fairways are not a problem though, with the local rule of Preferred Lies
