Played here last weekend in our society fixture. I can only say this course, the facilities and last but not least the staff were excellent. This course is maturing well and really makes you think on every shot. If your a lash it with the big stick man stay away, this is a thinking golfers paradise. For the price this is a must visit course, municipal? No one could tell.
Played here during the week after 2pm for £11 and £4.50 for my 18year od son who is classified as a junior so it was a bargain. The course has come on leaps and bounds since I was a member some years ago. The greens in particular were excellent, the fairways have more definition and I still consider this the best layout in the area, especially as the course now plays in the sequence it was in 78 when it opened. If this wasn't a municipal course it would easily command a much larger green fee. Well worth playing again.
recently played the course on sunday 24-05-09, for the first time since the course was altered back to it's original layout. thoroughly enjoyed it. always look forward every year to playing in the open competitions, and would recommend it to all golfers who have not played it.
played normanby hall in a society match on the 29/07/07, every member commented on how it played so well even after all the rain we had had the previous month. the green had been spiked but were fast and true.this was our third year here as a society and every year it gets tighter as the trees mature the fairways close in,even for the straight hitter this is a demanding course.
Played on a rainy day but the course was in excellent condition full marks to the ground staff. Excellent staff at clubhouse cant fault them. Overall a very good day out despite the rain.
Played this course on sat 15th April 06. Had lots of rain this past week or two so was expecting it to be boggey be it wasnt. The bunkers was in super condition (tryed and tested). The greens had been spiked and sanded two or three was still temps bet still was in great codition. Really enjoyed the round and for £14 its a bargain. They seem to be doing some work on club house but its still open for a pint after.
Played 28th Feb 06 - Course in good condition except the low point of the course - holes 11-12, which were a little waterlogged. Greens were in good condition, with a few temps in play (unfortunatly, these were just short mown parts of fairway, which led to some interesting pin placements). I can't reccomend this course enough, the layout is great and plays well year round, its brilliant value and is a good test of golf with some very difficult holes (tip for the 16th - stay left of the marker post, but don't go past it or you'll be blocked out for your second). Can't rate the clubhouse as i've never used it.
I and my playing colleagues have played this course on many occasions, and have always found it to provide an excellent value for money golfing challenge. In particular the back nine provides three memorable holes. The par 5 10th, followed by the par 3 11th (tee shot to a blind green), and the par 4 16th called the "devils elbow". You are made to feel welcome and can always gain a little local knowledge from the starting marshall and the steward at the half-way house.
Normanby Hall golf course is playing as well as it has done for years. With beautiful weather the longer holes become more reachable as the ball runs that bit further. the surroundings are lovely, and the new greenkeeper has done a great job manicuring the greens. i have played there more than once and will go back again in the future.
Although this is a very well designed course and a testing one it has fallen below standard of late. Most of the winter the main greens have been out of play and the path ways between holes have been very messy. It is a shame to see this course fall so far in its standards.
Positioned in a wonderful area of parkland with well established surroundings, complimented by the facilities the club provide. Not a course for the faint hearted who may like to amble around, this course is long and challenging with efforts rewarded upon reaching the manicured greens.
played on a warm day, course is in good condition excellent greens (very fast)quite straightforward not many tricky holes, a couple of good par 5's that will tempt you to go for green in two if you hit a good drive, on the whole a good course that will keep all abilities interested.
