7 reviews of North Downs Golf Club

I played on a lovely Sunday late afternoon for 15 quid and had the course to myself. Echo all of the positive comments in previous reviews. Interesting, varied holes in great condition accompanied by fantastic views. Accuracy is essential, particularly on approach shots as greens are tight. As it says on the tin, this is on the North Downs, so there are some serious up and downs; not least, one hole which some wag has called, 'Cardiac Hill'. The few members I did encounter were friendly and informative re the course. I didn't make use of the clubhouse so can't comment. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

What an absolute corker of a golf course, not long but none the less tricky, a course for the thinker and plotter rather than for the basher and slugger. We found the course in relatively good condition for March with good greens which will be even harder to read and putt on come the summer months. A great day was had by everyone with a warm welcome given to us by all the staff we met, the only downer was the early morning fog which made things difficult for a few holes, but hey we were looking for a new course to replace one of our old venues and we've found it. North Downs will now remain on our fixture list. Nuff said!

I played here yesterday in a Society. The course is not that long 5538yrds, but it is only a par 69, which does make it even. The first hole is a nice gentle opener (248yrds) if you choose to use it as that, or it is a chance to get your round off to a flying start. Having not played the course before, I would have struggled with a few of the holes as they have a couple of blind tee off's. But luckily we had someone in our group that had played before. As the sun was coming down, as it has for a long time this summer the ball just ran and ran. This was a help on a couple holes but not on others, as I run into the trees on several holes due to the sloping fairways. All the fairways are tree lined and if you are going to miss the fairways then I suggest you miss them big and end up on the next fairway, as when you are in the trees your only option is to chip out sideways. Quite a lot of short risk and reward holes with most of the greens on the course being thin and long, which means yon have to be straight when approaching the greens. For me the best part of the course were the greens. They were receptive to an approach shot so you could attack the pins, but they were also fairly quick when putting. The role was true with no bumps and bobbles. You were certainly rewarded for good putting as our group were rolling putts in from everywhere. I have played a lot of courses in the Kent/Surrey area and will defiantly be going back to this little gem.

Fabulous little course. Relatively short but certainly challenging enough. The tenth is a real test of golf and stamina. The small greens were in very good condition, fast, true but very difficult to read. Warm welcome from the members and staff, very pleasant atmosphere. I'll certainly be back.

what a great atmosphere we were met with when we arrived at the course. They were so at ease and happy to have you play their course. They do not have a tee time booking system so you are not in a rush to find the course so that you don't miss your slot. The course is not long but if you are not reasonably straight you can get into trouble with either the tree's and bushes or the slopes on the fairway's. The greens were in excellent condition and were faster than they look considering the amount of grass on them. Be careful where you park in the car park as it is not the biggest and we had a bit of trouble getting out, otherwise we had a great time and would definitely recommend the course to anyone.

I have been a member at North Downs for nearly five years and this demanding course never ceases to offer a challenge. With spectacular views of the Surrey countryside, it offers the chance to reach all par fours in two, but only with the most precise of drives; a short course - yes, but be warned, only the straighest of hitters will prosper. The course is protected by small undulating greens - par is a good score. My favourite hole - all of them - when I get the ball in the hole, but the 10th is a bit special. A great test of golf and a course and club to which I am proud to belong. You will not be disappointed !

This course is very challenging for both the beginner and experienced player. There are some wonderful views of surrey as well as some very challenging holes. How about the 'Pond Hole' where a 250 yd drive get's you in pole position with the perfect layup, only to to see your chip run through the back of the green. The 16th hole at the club is one of the most challenging par 3's you will play on a non-championship course. Highly recommended this course has everything, great facilities as well as a course that has every type of challenge a golfer would like to meet as well as some he would not.
