12 of us played Penrith last Friday as part of our annual trip to the Lakes. Very pleasant course with interesting , challenging but not brutal holes. Nice clubhouse and food very reasonable priced. Lovely views of the mountains too. definitely worth a play.

Played on final day of recent golf tour in glorious weather conditions. Extremely warm welcome from the pro and staff in general. Good locker room and practice facilities. Smart, well equipped club house and pro shop. The course itself is a fairly flat affair with some nice holes with breathtaking scenery to boot. Although the rough wasn't overly long, it was thick and nestled your ball down very easily, making it quite penal but still fair. Lots of trees abound, so don't stray too far from the fairly generous fairways generally. Some good use of natural hazards - brooks, streams, gorse etc were a nice touch. Greens were in good condition and pretty slick, probably the best we played all week. Tee beds generally ok, a couple a bit patchy but not too bad. I thought it was a pretty fair track for all handicappers. I imagine it's a totally different beast if the wind is blowing! Not sure what the signature hole is, but I thought the 8th was a belter to look at, and the 13th a really good golfing hole. The only hole that I thought let it down was the very short par 3 tenth - a half hit sand/lob wedge at best. A good finishing strectch though offering good risk reward holes. Catering afterwards was decent enough and plentiful, served in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere Would definitely return at a future date.

i played penrith on the 5th Oct 09 as part of our golf groups 4 day tour of the lakes and it was a fantastic 1st day to our stay! we had a warm welcome from the pro and had a bite to eat in the bar area. the course is fairly flat and open and a good drive would reward you with a chance of going for the green. there were some memorable holes with the 5th and 13th being my 2 favourites. i played fairly well on the day and would have no hesitation returning in the future for another game. overall 7 out of 10

Our first course on our Lake District golf holiday, a great course, with some testing holes and views to die for, a must if in the area and the staff could not do enough for you.

One of the most scenic course in the country, with sensational views of the lake district on a good day. This is not a monster by any means, the test is being accurate off the tee and able to deal with the wind, which like a lot of courses in hilly, exposed ares does get up. The greens were good, despite recent rain and the clubhouse, which was recently extended and refurbished, is very pleasant and welcoming. Penrith is only a small town, and it feels like the club is part of the community. I got the impression that it's almost as if everyone in town is a member!

As regular golfing visitors to Cumbria (from North Staffordshire), Penrith is always a favourite. The views of the North Lakes mountains is stunning. Our latest visit in October (2004) the course was in excellent condition, and as always the members and staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The clubhouse is something else. my son and I played Penrith at the beginning of April 04 and the course was in excellent condition. As good as I have seen it but I still couldn't read the greens even though they were true and receptive. The 11th green will fool you, but make the trip to Penrith, it is well worth it.

My friends & I have been playing in this club's August Bank Holiday Competitions for the past 5 yearsand would highly recommend this moorland course which is well maintained and gives an excellent test of golf. We would also recommend the Sunday Roast offered in the clubhouse together with the club great fare!
