realy realy good ,greens perfect ferways brill nice little shop too for the price outstanding
Played the course on September 3rd 2011 with our society, good day overall till we got to the 18th hole where most people leave their bags just over the bridge and walk down to the tee with the club they intend to use. The walk down to the tee was roughly 50 yards but that made the bags out of view, teed off and played the hole out as normal and finished the game. When we got back to the car to put the bags and trollies away, my friend could not find his key fob, looked through all his pockets but to no avail, I just happened to try the boot and it opened, all the doors were open and the radio was turned as it does when you try to start the car. Puzzled, we came to conclusion that somebody had tried to steal the car, but there was no forced entry. Looking through my own bag I could not find my phone. Told the golf staff about this and said your bags have been gone through whilst you teed off on the 18th, they hide in the trees and wait for you to walk down, then rifle through your bags only taking car keys, phones, money, etc, do up your zips to make out that theres nothing wrong, they then proceed either up the 18th or 1st fairway or somewhere else, go round the car park with the key fobs or alarms to find the cars and then when you get back your none the wiser. This crime wave spell has been happening for a month or so before we played the course, the golf staff said they had put signs up, but we never seen any, a quick word when you pay for your round or if your with a society, a word to your organiser to warn of what has been going on would have been sufficient, to be wary on the 18th and keep your bags in view. This would have resulted in me not having my phone stolen and my friends key fob being stolen and the hassle we had in getting home. The only reason the car wasn't stolen was because it has a push button start and they didn't know how to start it. We looked in the bushes around the car park just on the off chance they might have thrown the key fob away. We found somebody elses wallet and keys and also store cards, books of stamps, etc what had been threw away. Police contacted and investigating. Other than that, it is a good course.
I played Cocks Moors a few weeks a go and having not played the course for a couple of years was blown away with what a great condition it was in. all the fairways were immaculatly cut and all the greens were spotless.
This course has come on leaps and bounds in the last 3 years. In my opinion the best muni in brum. Good challenge and good value for money. Seems to have had influx of money as the greenkeepers are out on the course everyday.
Very impressed with the course - nice hot day in the middle of September. From the Tee to the pin everything was in excellent order. Fairways, Rough and greens recently cut and well looked after. The only thing I found a little odd was the odd child and adult walking dogs around the fairways without a care in the world. The main facilities shared with the sports hall did not seem enough to cope with the number of people at the centre. The golf shop was well stocked and seemed reasonably priced.really enjoyed my recent 3 day trip to Old Thorns. The course was in excellent condition and a pleasure to play, even though there was alot of people playing each day.The food was also impressive though alittle pricey. On the whole i couldnt fault it except the lack of evening entertainment but thats just a personal thing.
Not a bad course for the tiny amount of space availble. If you go late in the daywhen its less busy you can start to appreicate some of the holes. The condition is very poor, greens very bad and fairways aren't cut too often.
The greens have just been hollow-tined which should really help, as last month they were rock hard with bare patches on them. The course played well even under torrential rain yesterday, its always going to play short, but its a well designed, if heavily used municipal.
played it once and will never go back. It was dreadful. To be fair it did have a few decent holes toward the end. standing on the 13th tee i felt like i was in a firing range. play it if you must but there are much better munis around.
quite challenging with plenty of streams. easy to get to and its a traditional parkland course. Marks out of ten I woukld give it 8
i played cocks moor 10/11/04 and was looking forward to a decent round of golf having played most of the bham municipal coures. The course was at best a complete joke, balls plugging into every green, fairway grass so long that when hitting down the middle you still faced a 5 minute search for the ball.I know many will say "well it is winter" and "it is a municipal" but the condition spoilt a well laid out course. The staff were friendly but gave no hint to a course unplayable.I have played all the courses on the bham links circuit and all in winter and can say cocks moor must do better. My advice to municipal golfers is to try hilltop.
CMWGC is a pleasant woodland course. Slighty hilly and with a good mix of long and some particularly challenging short holes. Mid week access is relatively easy but it gets very busy at weekends. It's part of the Birmingham Golf Link scheme and green fee discounts are available if you join the scheme.
