Played there for the first time this morning: on the minus side _greens very sandy _no course map on the scorecard on the plus side _perfect for someone struggling with the drive on the slice or the hook: I have never seen such large fairways
Played here for the first time yesterday (31 July 2011). Was more than impressed with the condition of the course. The tees were well maintained. Fairways were running well, and the rough challenging. Greens were a little slow but run true which is always good. The front nine allowed you to settle into the round nicely with a couple of good openers and then some nice challenging holes mid round but plenty of birdie opportunites on this course too. To close with a nice couple of relatively tough holes where accuracy is a premium. Looking forward to getting back to this course
It probably unfortunate that the previous course i played was the superb St Mellion- but even allowing for the very cheap prices- i thought Deangate Ridge lacked the air of a Golf Course circa 2011. It felt very 'municipal', very dated and a had the general air of 1980's soviet russia. Not conducive to a pleasant few hours golf at all. The tee boxes were awful, the lack of next tee markers drove me potty and the greens were very, very slow and heavy. The course itself if ok, but I think it'll need some serious investment before i play there again.
First time of playing here, and at £16.50 for 18 holes a good price. Even with the dry weather the course has held out well, and the greens and tees are in a good condition. Nice to play at a course which was also well marked out, and bunkers that were looked after and had rakes. The holes we played on the front nine were a good challenge. The course also has a decent clubhouse and Pro shop. At the time of visiting the driving range was closed for re-construction. My main concern was the extreme slow play. Playing as a two ball it took us over 3 hours to do the first nine holes and gave up after this as it was not getting any quicker. At one point there was 12 players queueing up on the fourth hole. Turned out there were two societies booked in, which had I known I would of gone elsewhere. Saying that, the supervisor gave me and my playing partner a credit to come back for a full round another day so credit to them for that. It would have also been nice to have a map on the back of the scorecard showing the layout of the course, but having so many players in front and behind us meant the lack of a map and sign posting did not mean we got lost today! Looking forward to returning and hopefully having a better time.
I really enjoyed this course. Played on a weekday morning, not too busy. The fairways are in excellent condition, the greens are very smooth (similar in pace to Weald of Kent). The fees are reasonable too... There are good challenges for all levels, I found the par 3s here quite tough. I love the layout, the only thing lacking that other local courses have is a nice short hole (perhaps 130/140 yards) Looking forward to returning!
Played the course for the first time today and must say I was very impressed with most aspects of it. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. You can't complain about the price you pay either. For a municipal course the tee boxes and greens were in excellent condition. This course is a challange for all abilities and one I was rising to until the last three holes - golf don't you love it! My one complaint was that there were not enough signs pointing you in the direction of the next tee but as the guy in the shop said to me, they put them down but the local kids just keep pinching them. Will certainly be going back.
The best public course i have played on in kent. Some great holes the last two in particular are very tough! The shop staff were very helpful as i forgot my golf shoes and they couldn't do enough to help. The clubhouse staff were ok but the food was not great. The course is value for money i would recomend anyone looking for a new challenge to play here.
I have played at most of the local private courses (that shall remain nameless)and very few surpass Deangate. The course at Deangate pretty much gives you the same quality as a £40/£50 private course but for £15! Very Impressed.
First visit here yesterday. I have played several muni courses within 30 minute drive and will probably say it is the best out of those. Fairways are generally wide and forgiving, hoever there are a few ditches which means accuracy is important. A few kids managed to sneak onto the course, but with a course marshall playing behind our two-ball they were quickly moved in a fair bur firm way (they were told to go to the driving range were they would be given the opportunity to hit a few balls). But at £12 for the round you get what you pay for, which here is a friendly club and an enjoable round of golf.
A decent golf course with fantastic greens. Everyone who has played it with me for the first time cannot believe it is a council run course. The greens would not look out of place on a championship course (And I have played a few) Not a great test of golf but ok.... Check it out if only for the greens and the £13.00 midweek green fees
Fantastic........the greens are the best I have seen in Kent including the Open courses. £13 midweek cannot be beaten in this area. Would recommend to anyone. Food good value for money too.
Good Challenging course, can be slow at weekends, Pleasent Atmostphere, clubhouse and Pro-shop, Well stocked and Friendly Staff...
Recently played here as part of a society day. The course was on good form, and not too slow. The service provided and the catering facilities made it such a fantasic day. We all had a great round of golf and throughly enjoyed the day. We have already booked another date in November
With the addition of the new driving range a couple of years ago Deangate has become good little course, especially for a council run course. On a good day this can be a very testing course both in a golfing sense and physically. Cardiac Hill (the 14th hole) is a killer par 4. The only draw back as stated in the other reviews can be the overcrowding, this coupled with some drainage work started several years ago can be extremely annoying. But over all a good days golf.
Deangate Ridge is challenging course with no two rounds being the same. If your driving ability is not up to scratch you could find some of the holes difficult to reach in regulation. The only let down of the course is the hard fairways caused by over crowding. The traffic can also cause 5 hour rounds. Overall this course is the best value for money anywhere in the country.
Great little course - major problem is over crowding, the round can be awfully slow.
