we played the course on a damp sunday morning and was pleased we could tee off straight away,i was told by my playing partner that it was a little hidden gem ,after playing it i agreed, the greens were 1st class and also the rough wasnt too bad, blind tee shots, good length par 3,s and good range of par 5,s,the 19th was very informative and friendly,we travelled 20 miles but was very pleased,we are now considering to become members, thanks maywood.

after reading some of the reports on here i approached playing this course with , to be honest some trepidation . hard small greens , unable to define rough from fairways.but in time honoured tradition i never pass judgement till i see for myself.... so , the only criticism i have of this course is the fact that it poorly signposted ..... thats it !... bearing in mind this is a relativley new course (1990)the greens are on the smallish size .... so what ? but i have to say some of the best ive seen... we played in the morning on a fairly dry day and the first step onto the first green was like walking onto a wet carpet .... they were well watered, but that did not stop then playing fast and true .i was later informed by the joint owner that although there isnt any water sprinklers on any of the greens they are all watered in the morning . all greens are in very good condition and i would love to play here when these dancefloors havent been watered !!! it must be a true test for the best of putters.. !! although not the longest by a long stretch (6218 off yellows) it is a good test for any handicap golfer..varied par threes from 134 yards to 226 yards a really good selection of par fours . blind tee shots suggest a visit to the pro shop to buy a course planner but you really need to play it once to get your eye in ... like i intend to do soon .... ok its not st andrews or a course that is vastly overpriced, at £18 ....£9 on a 241 !!!! is excellent value golf by anyones standard. two very minor points some of the fairways do need a little more work on them ( a little more grass in some places, thats all) and the lack of a driving range .would be on a wish list one more thing ... as i sat down in the club house and tucked into my pie and chips and took the top of my pint , i noticed something rather pleasing .... it was like your local ,friendly a good atmoshere and beleive me ,well worth a visit , but take care or you will miss it and that would be a shame .

I played maywood aprox 2 years ago at a similar time of the year ( march , april) and found the course to be good and the staff to be very friendly. I played there again this week to find the course has improved alot over the last 2 years eg,new bunkers, new paths new ball washers, new signs on each hole and a new tee box on the 2nd, and i must say i play alot of different courses around the midlands and the greens are definatley the best i have played on all winter, The green keepers have done an excellent job i will definatly be back for more . (keep up the good work)

I feel this Club has been much maligned in previous reviews. On 25th July 2006 my friends and I played in the Seniors open and had the most wonderful Day out. The Course was in excellent condition, yet very challenging. The Greens were superb and as for the atmosphere in Tthe Club House, well it was so friendly and we were treated well by Staff and Members alike. I DO hope we can get a time for the 2007 event as we can't wait to return. Thank you Maywood for your organization and welcome, we had a most enjoyable Day. Eamon McDonald, Lingdale Golf Club.

I take all my previous comments back. Played there a few days ago and the course has gone backwards. Tee boxes so hard it was sometimes hard to get a wooden tee in, fairways indistinguishable from their surroundings and scalped, rock hard greens. Not even worth the 2 fore 1 price. I feel sorry for the members.

Maywood is a course waiting to happen, with a good investment this could be an excellent course. It's in a pleasant situation with a very friendly atmosphere. Play this course 2 for 1 and its a bargain, dont bother in winter there are drainage issues which need some attention.

I have just played Maywood on a miserable wet afternoon and enjoyed every minute. The course was in superb condition, superbly drained with consistent greens and fairways. I've played this course on and off since 1990, and suffered on its 'agricultural' fairways and bumpy greens but I can honestly say that the improvements in the course over the last year are astounding and are a credit to the groundstaff. Well worth a visit now, and good value. Friendly staff and members in the clubhouse too!
