Played Caldy on Sunday 8 January 2012 with our society and the course was in excellent condition. After all the wind and heavy rain we had in the previous days the course was outstanding. Tees, fairways and a full 18 greens where all in use. Definitely worth a visit if your looking for a good winter venue.

Three captains playing on a Friday afternoon. We loved this course. Views superb and course in excellent condition. We didn't find the 'inland' holes any less challenging than coast holes, although the wind wasn't heavy - indeed the final three holes are lovely, particularly par 3 17th, which is a great little hole, followed by superb sweeping dogleg final hole back to clubhouse. Passed the time of day with several members who were very friendly and pleased to hear how much we enjoyed our round. One of the best, just wish I'd played better!

Played here last week as the first day of a stag weekend in Liverpool (sorry, that was the 'university reunion' in case any Caldy club official is reading this!) The course lies just a few clicks down the estuary from Hoylake, but is only links in part. Perhaps not surprisingly, those holes (3-10) form the best stretch on the course, with the third being the standout hole – an excellent dogleg from an elevated tee with a second shot to a green with the estuary beautifully set behind it. The remainder of the course is more parkland in nature and, whilst it certainly requires you to think your way around, it's hard not to reflect from the 11th onwards that the best holes are behind you. However, despite the colossal amount of rainfall in recent times (which required us to go off the forward tees), the condition was holding up well and the greens in particular were absolutely excellent. So too was the welcome from the Secretary – thanks for having us and sorry for being economical with the truth! 6.25/10 'Young P' (h/c 12)

Had the pleasure of playing twice during the August 2005 Festival of Golf. Course in excellent condition with challenging greens. Don't think you've 'cracked' the course with a good front nine as the back nine will probably catch you out. The wonderful views over the Dee are an added bonus and the food is second to none.
