Played this course earlier this year for the second time and again we were well pleased.all middle handicappers. No problems to speak of and a great reception from staff and members alike. The catering is not fancy but is inexpensive as is the course., and more than adequate for the hungry golfer. All in all a great afternoon on decent greens and well maintained fairways. Thank you Scarthingwell you are on our golf tour list again next year.

Played the course Friday 7th August using a 2 for 1 voucher. Good value at £14 each using the voucher (charged on the day rate), but still good value at the normal 18 hole fee of £21. The course is a good layout with plenty of dog legs. The front 9 is more varied with elevation changes whereas the back 9 is quite flat although its good to see a course that has had some thought gone in to the layout on the flat holes, with well placed fairway & greenside bunkering. Tees & fairways were in good condition, plenty of sand in the bunkers & very good greens. If i was to have one minor grumble, the 150 markers on some holes do not seem accurate. The layout does play longer than its stated yardage on the front 9 due to the elevation changes, with the 6th (an uphill par 5) being a real beast of a hole. 3 of the par 3's are short (less than 150 yards) but the design of each is very good making a good approach tricky, the last par 3 is the 18th which at 190 yards off the blue tees (and into the prevailing wind) is a real test. The course has a great club house and the practice facilities are also good (putting green, chipping green & long game areas). Will be playing here again.

Just played Scarthingwell today, weather was very cold and windy. Scarthingwell is a very good golf course not very long but it makes up for lack of distance in very well placed bunkers and ditches across the farways. The best holes are not always the longer holes the short par 4 7th is only just short of 300 yards but there is a bunker 30 yards short right and 2 greenside bunkers 1 left and 1 right not realy giving you a shot to go for the green in 1. The 10th hole is also a very good hole a sharpe dog leg left you need to hit the ball a good 220 off the tee to get a good look at the green then you have water to go over about 40 yard short of the green also well bunkerd around the green. The greens were in good condition, the fairways are in good condition, tees a little worn but to be expected at this time of year. we was given a warm welcome by the pro and the club house staff, had a nice drink and a game of snooker after overall a very nice set up look forward to playing this course again in the summer when it is in top nick, overall 9 out of 10. Thanks Stuart Barlow.

played this course on 23-09-06 cracking course for not only novices like me but also those that play low handicaps . playing in a four ball took us 3.5 hours to get round and well worth the 25 notes.

A newly established golf course but don't let this fool you, this course is very well maintained and is good all year round. It gets better year by year. The fairways could be said to be the best in York and the greens are pretty good also. It is a very welcoming club and visitors are encouraged to play at all times. The score card only reads roughly 6,750 yards off the whites but the wind is always up and it plays far longer. The greens are very small and in order to play the course in regulation you must hit the fairways. There are not that may birdie opportunities so you must make the most of the par 5's and few short par 4's. However, you can stand on any tee and easily come off with a bogey on any hole. Don't underestimate this course, it is a serious test of anyone's game.

Played this course on 9th September 2004 and I have to say this course gets better and better year by year. The clubhouse is great, with a well stocked pro shop and sound changing facilities and the welcome was great from staff and members alike. There is a practice putting and chipping area and a driving net, there is also a practice area in the middle of the back 9 but I think this is for members only. The course itself was in wonderful condition, the fairways were well cut and had great definition from the rough, which gets more treacherous the more wayward you are. The greens were also in great shape, not the fastest in the world, but pretty true and good putting surfaces for any standard. Some of the holes on the front nine are shaped on a gentle slope of the land, coupled with some fairly tight fairways and very long rough it produces a tough and interesting challenge. The back nine however is VERY flat, I defy anyone to find a flatter nine holes anywhere in the country, but dont let this fool you. The club have made great use of the land available to them and with water featuring on a number of holes, thick rough and tight fairways it makes for a very interesting challenge. The wind blew pretty hard when I played and at over six thousand two undred yards from the blue tees the course plays pretty long and will examine every part of your game. Given the terrain this a really good course requiring power and accuracy and I would say worth twenty sheets of anybody's money
