played 10 sept, still recovering it is indeed a hidden gem, but they can't have a seniors section no one could reach retirement age playing twice a week, it's so hilly, we even came across a scateboarder going down one fairway!! the condition of the course was A1 as good as any this year, pity there are no buggies to hire.if you are young and fit go and try it, very interesting.
This is wonderful value for money. it is very hilly and no two holes are the same. You have to use every club in the bag and play a wide variety of shots. Great views too. There are only two problems with the course. One is the public park aspect. Dog walkers particularly are a hindrance and signage could be a lot better. Why are there no yardage markers? The course is so hilly it is very difficult to judge distances properly with forshortening etc.
As a local to Allestree I've played here a few times and always enjoyed the course. It is pretty hilly but that's a bonus for me. The greens are good. Fairways can get a bit muddy. For a municipal this is an outstanding place to play Golf and Green Fees are an absolute steel. As pointed out in other reports, the signage isn't the best but I've never really noticed. Come along and play a cracker. It doesn't have the polish of some of Derbyshire's 'posher' courses, but it's more fun that a lot of them!
I would echo the sentiments of other reports. Lovely setting and a very well kept course. However it does live up to its name in that it does appear to be at times a public 'park' and not a golf course! Nonetheless for the green fee you would struggle to play at a nicer spot.
Would be a fantastic course with a bit more care and attention, very confusing with no signs pointing to the next tee, one hole we played to the wrong green. As mentioned in earlier reports the main issue is the amount of non golfers walking around, we saw a tramp with a blanket and 2 kids with remote control cars using the fairways and tees as jumps. Some cracking holes though and we only paid £7.50.
My main gripe with this course is the fact that it seems to be considered a public dog walking path!!!!!! there's acres of park to use and for some reason the locals bring the dogs out onto the golf course. A very uphill one second and downhill the next course with some long par 4's. There are a few holes where you're firing blind due to the height of the greens!!! i'm a beginner and my best round to date at allestree is 132. Not for the amateur golfer but I imagine intermediate and advanced golfers would savour the challenge that allestree offers.
We play courses around the country and 99% of the time go on the reviews on this website, after reading the good reviews we thought we would give this course a go. We were suprised how cheap the green fees were(£13) but soon found out why this is ! I know we had a bit of rain this week but the course was muddy, I imagine in the winter time it will be virtually unplayble. There are no markings telling you where the next tee is, there are no 150 markers. The course itself is very much up and down with not much variation at all, it is also very hilly and after playing football the night before we found it very hard going. There is no dress code, we were in our trousers only to find most people on the course in jeans. The worst thing of all though was the people walking on the course, just as you would be about to take a shot someone with a dog would walk accross the hole, there were also people leaving toddlers run around on a golf course !! All in all very dissapointed. IT JUST ISNT GOLF !
Awesome challenging layout. Worthy course for the Derbyshire Scratch League Champions 2005 to play on.
Alletree Park is a municipal course that has remained very popular with the local and wider golfing community. Dispite it's popularity and invietably high volume of traffic, the course remain in excellent condition. It is often commented that in private hands, Allestree Park would be among the top 5 courses in the county. I endorse this view wholly, but add that had it been a private club when I began playing golf, I may not have. In response to the above comment regarding junior green fees, these are controlled by the local authority and are not in the remit of the club. The junior membership fees are competitive with any other club locally. I challenge all golfers to come and beat us in our Open 30/08/02. We are currently priviliged to have 2 scratch and county golfers, a Div 2 scratch team, finalist in both the Devonshire and Cartwright cups and have won our Gross open prize for the last 3yrs. We intend to retain it for many more. Come and have a go if you think your good enough!

A quality course that allows a true miriad of shots to be played. Clever lay-ups will most certainly be beneficial and rewarded. Although the course is quite hilly, the views are splendid and make a wonderful game complete. Finally this course privides exceptional value for money, almost half the cost other less quality courses charge.
I PLAY IN THE COMPETITIONS ON THURSDAY AND SUNDAY, AND THE COURSE HAS BEEN IN VERY GOOD CONDITION ALL YEAR. BUT TO MAKE THIS A TOP CLASS CLUB WE NEED THE FOLLOWING. RAKES FOR THE BUNKERS, A BAR/CLUB ROOM WITH A GOLF CLUB ATMOSPHERE, AND ABOVE ALL A COMMITTEE THAT INSPIRES NEW MEMBERS ESPECIALLY JUNIORS THROUGH VERY CHEAP RATES FOR THEM.
A very good value game of golf. Well maintained, fast greens and plenty of character. The hills will take it out of you so take a trolley. Highly recommended.
