Having played this course on Friday 25 May 2012 I would like to make certain comments. The course itself, although relatively short,by comparison with other courses which our Society has played,in our sixteen years of existence, was a trial. Though the first nine holes are individually relatively short, the accuracy required, coupled with excessively deep and punishing rough, made it very difficult to find balls and even when found extremely difficult to play out of.Consequently our individual Stableford scores were very low. The welcome by the staff was good, the meal after our round was excellent,in fact I would say one of the best we as a Society have had.
One of the most enjoyable Society days in our Ten years. Nice course, lovely condition, made very welcome by staff and members alike and excellent value. We will be returning next year.
I have played this course several times over a number of years and must say it has always impressed me. With accuracy, the front nine leaves the possibility of low scores even for those high handicappers with less distance. Inaccuracy, however leaves you open to a very wet day as nearly all the holes have water hazards. The back nine requires more length in the shots and rounds can fall apart due to this. A thoroughly enjoyable days hacking.
I am a member of Barlaston Golf Club and would like to take this opportunity to inform past and future visitors that our club now boasts completely new clubhouse vacilities. It has an excellent dinning area, lounge area and bar area, visitors can be assured of a warm welcome and a much improved 19th hole.
Played over 2 beautiful sunny evenings in July. Fairly tight fairways on first few holes with numerous bunkers, small ponds etc to catch loose shots, accuracy very important. Very nice with River Trent coming into play often. 7th hole 'Old Swampy' has a difficult approach shot, very steep downhill slope into a pond then up to the green. Watch out for fisherman around the Lake holes (8th and 9th)!! Second nine wider but longer. Nice finishing hole up to raise green next to the clubhouse. Lovely course to play on a bright Summers evening.
Very entertaining course, best played May - Nov. Front nine winds alongside the River Trent and although short compared to the back nine, it has many water hazards via River, Streams and ponds. Accurate iron play an advantage. Back nine long with no main water hazards. Very scenic..a pleasure to play.
We call this course WATER and WIRES. The first few holes have water hazards with the river Trent winding through and around the course. A pleasant day out all year round.Obvious sighns of bird life on the back nine.
