Played here February 09 ( £15 using a county card ). I'd put this in the hidden gem category . Very high up ,fairly open downland course .Exhilarating ,great fun & a bit quirky ( e.g. lone trees bent 60 degrees permanently due to the wind ,18 has a deep crevice running across the fairway ,the stone wall running along the edge of the 7th ). It has a very natural feel & good hole variety .There wasn't one hole that i didn't enjoy. The course layout & routing has been very cleverly done so as not to make it too hard work. Excellent ,cheap menu in the bar. Really good greens .Fast & true .A good driving course too, with quite a bit of room. The only slight drawbacks were we were off a lot of mats ,some of which i thought could have been put closer to the tee.The par 4 5th mat was so far ahead that it was a par 3 & the signature hole (maybe) 6th was spoilt a bit by being much lower & forward ,so there was a feeling that you weren't playing the full course. Also,we played on a 'quiet' Tuesday but it was very busy. We played on a cloudy day but the views over Eastbourne & all around would be fantastic on a clear Summers day. Kevin B.

I have played Eastbourne Downs on a number of occasions and have always received a warm welcome on both the clubhouse and, on the course. Very good value for money (for a private club) and a reasonable test of golf. The greens are normally in good condition, with fairways of natural downland turf, ideal for "nipping" the ball up nicely. Some fairly boring straightforward holes to start off with, but there are some great golf holes as well, with the 18th being a nice testing par 4, not too long, but enough to make you think about if you are needing the hole for a win! Would definitely recommend to anybody holidaying in the area for a gentle game, would prefer to play here than the other courses in Eastbourne
