An excellent course and well worth a visit. I'm glad we decided to go there. Best greens I have played on for many a year and a good challenge without being overly difficult. The new clubhouse facilities are fantastic having been refurbished in the Winter of 2010. I've seen few if any better. Catering to a high standard. We will definately visit again in 2011.
I played for the first time at haggs castle with three colleagues on 28/07/09 and thought I would provide a more balanced report than the previous reviewer. Firstly in terms of the course itself, I found it to be in good condition overall, fairways were well defined and greens ran pretty true. From a personal point of view I think there are too many doglegs which can make it a touch repetitive. In terms of changing facilties we changed in the members changing room and these were of similar standard to most golf clubs up and down the country. Finishing on a positive note the staff were very friendly and helpful and the members I spoke to seemed genuinely pleased to have visitors to their course. We did not pay the full green fee which to be fair is a bit on the steep side if you compare it with other courses in the local area.
Played this course in July 2008 and was very very disappointed. Considering the green fees the condition of the couse was a total disgrace. The fairways were extremly cut up with loads of unplaced divots and the greens were of a very poor standard. The course in general looked very untidy and shoddy in most places. Food in the clubhouse was again overly priced and of a very poor standard. There are no changing facilities for visitors and the locker rooms we were directed to were very small and dirty. Overall very expensive and a total disgrace.
What the hell is the reviewer below me talking about? Do you have any appreciation of what a good golf course actually is? I played this course last week, its in terrible nick. The practice green is diseased, as are many on the course. Fairways aren't cut properly, neither is the rough. Hardly any sand in some of the bunkers. How can you describe that as "fantastic", willing to bet your handicaps higher than 20 ;)
played haggs fri 27thJuly 07 with 2 members raved about the course,tees-fairways-greens&condition overall FANTASTIC well worth a visit.
This course has a lot of pontenial but it has went downhill over the years I must say. The fairways are far too long and the greens are in terrible nick for a course which once hosted the Scottish Open. I have played it in 1999,2002 and again this year and I have noticed a steady decline. They really need to get their greenkeepers working to pick up the standards again of such a course.
This course is not worth the money you have to pay the greens are shocking, the grass on the fairway is very long, and a lot of boring holes, Overall a very boring course.
There are a couple of nice holes on this course but there are plenty of better options in the city. At £40 it simply does not justify the hefty green fee. Play can be very slow and the day we played (Mid July) the greens had been heavily spiked.
