Held Golf Society end of year Golf + Christmas Dinner at South Hereford Golf Club.\\The Course played extremely well even with rain and wind. The Dinner was exceptional all freshly cooked, with food to spare and the Staff were most pleasant and helpful. \\At £22.95 a head Golf and Dinner would recommend to any Society or individuals. This was the second year for our Society, enjoyed by everyone.
Played here yesterday in the annual RBL Charity Day & I find I have to disagree with the 2 previous reviews. I have played here a number of times over the last few years & in the past I have not been a huge fan of the course. I often felt the greens were far too dry & hard & you were often punished for hitting a good shot in at the green. The last 3 times I have played here this year the greens, whilst slower than most, have been in excellent condition, and yesterday was no exception. Yes, they are soft and relatively slow due to the watering that they now receive each morning but this helps them hold where previously they didn't and you now get full reward for your approach shots! Under new ownership as of yesterday I would expect this course to go from strength to strength and I am looking forward to my next visit!!
Played this course the other day and was very dissapointed. The fairways were all basicaly mud and had very little grass on them. The greens were spongey and every single hole was full up with water. Some of the bunkers was water logged and if not they were boggy. A total waste of time and money. I would rather play neighbouring courses which are actualy looked after.
today 29 june 2011 I played south herefordshire. Where do I start. Greens, green staff ,or all of the course. The greens were so bad three putts turned out to be good. Over the road to 3rd it was like a bomb site. There was not a sign of any green staff and looked to me that there had not been any for a number of days. I have spent a large part of my working life as a head green keeper in oxfordshire. Back in 1997 I had the honour of being club capt. at s.h.g.c and I was disappointed that the course had not matured over the intervening years as I had expected it to. Can anyone tell me what has happened to the skylarks?
Played this course in September 2009 - Very helpful staff in Pro Shop & bar where the prices were keen & the food excellent - Back to the course - It is in good condition considering its age (build in the 1990's I believe) - Fairways were excellent / tees good / greens ok - The course is undulating rather than hilly but there are a couple of quite steep holes like the stroke index 1 which is a real cracker (driver & 5 wood on a Par 4 for me playing off 7) - Good selection of 3's 4's and fives - Most of the greens are quite slopey - Nice scenery too - Green fee £20 or half that after 3pm - My only grumble would be there needs to be more signs taking you from the green to the next tee (had to ask the way a few times!) - That said I'd certainly go back if I was in the area again
This course is now one of the best anywhere. Its true that off the white tees its a challenge but the views and some really spectacular holes make it all worthwhile. The greens and fairways are great. A frindly club that offers real value for money
This course has improved dramatically over the past few years. The newly planted trees are starting to establish themselves, and with the re-shaping of a lot of the fairways, the course has become much more interesting. As a lady 36 handicapper I find it extremely challenging, but very enjoyable. The views are excellent, so even if the golf's off(!) the walk is worth it!If it has been some time since you played this course go back and give it another go, you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's still like playing on a millionaire's golf course, not hassled by people behind and not held up by loads of people in front!
I have played South Herefordshire Golf Course a number of times over the past 4 years and have seen a marked improvement each year as the Course matures. I played the Course today and was totally impressed with the well manicured fairways and true greens. The Course ia reasonably long but, with the wide rolling fairways allowing the ball to run, it did not feel so. The views over the Herefordshire countryside and Welsh mountains are spectacular. I have also played a number of other local courses and I now believe this Course is up amongst the best. This Course is a little gem and is a good test of golf for all handicaps and should not be missed.
South Herefordshire Golf Course is a challenge for golfers of all abilities, it has a par three course also for the less able. As a twelve handicapper, I was well tested. The fairways and greens are in good condition and currently temporary greens are only used when the weather prevents the main greens being used. The course is frequently open when others in the area have to close. Views are spectacular. The friendliness of the staff and members is noticeable and the clubhouse is now equipped with new showers and changing rooms. Food was basic and good and always available. Visitors and societies use the course a lot, but because it is blessed with plenty of space, slow play and booking of tees is never a problem. I think the course is great - but beginners beware.
