3 reviews of Witney Lakes Golf Club

The initial impression is that golf is subsidiary to other activities at the "resort" such as the health spa and conference centre. The golf changing rooms are small and basic compared to the size of the complex and the pro shop is a rack of balls, tees and gloves at reception. However the staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The course is fairly bland, open and uninspiring. Don't be put off by the acres of blue on the course planner as water is pretty peripheral to play except on 8th, 14th and 18th and even there it is not especially intimidating for regulation play. A good course as a society venue particularly due to the excellent bar and restaurant facilities.

Played here midweek July 06 (£10 using a county card). Fairly uninspiring modern course . Windswept & quite open .It was a bit scruffy around the edges (not the best fairways ,G.U.R. bunkers & quite a few weeds about). The lakes don't really come into play here & haven't been fully utilised. Also i found it quite tiring & overall generally uninteresting & as a result i wouldn't recommend it. Kevin B.

Played here midweek July 06 (£10 using a county card). Very uninspiring & not my idea of an enjoyable golf course.Modern course which is open ,windswept, has young trees lining some fairways , is a bit scruffy round the edges & seems to get busy. We travelled quite a long way to play here & after only a few holes we wished we hadn't bothered as we could sense that the course wasn't going to get much better, which it didn't. There's not enough attention paid to the general maintenance here(not the best fairways,G.U.R bunkers & quite a few weeds in the fairways, rough & plant features ) & the course itself just isn't that interesting. As in the course name i was expecting some water fun but most of the lakes don't come into play & haven't been fully utilised .One water hazard that was in play was a comical man made pond next to the 13th green complete with paving stones & liner which looked like it belonged to an unfinished landscape gardening project. Balls that run into fairway bunkers can run out the other side & the course could do with a few more short strategic par 4s as there are too many long tiring par4/5s .The last 6 holes go around the perimeter & are hard work & which complete an overall tiring round. If you want to play a decent new course in the area play Kirtlington.I wouldn't play here again even if it was free. Kevin B.
