9 reviews of Brierley Forest Golf Club
Played Brierley Forest today 04/11/2014 and shot a gross 81. This course clubhouse and facililities improves every time I play and is now starting to rival other more established courses in the area. The value for money at Brierley is still the best around at £15 for 18 holes. the course whilst being a bit muddy in high traffic areas is benefitting enormously from the drainage and other works which are being carried out with little or no interference in one's game. Great Greenstaff. Pro and clubhouse staff. Highly Recommended. Shot a gross 81 today so I do have an appreciation of golf.
Visited this course today and in my opinion the course is great. The fairways an greens were superb and amazing value for money. The only downside was the clubhouse. If a bit of money was spent on this it would enhance the club. I have paid more money at other courses but this ranks up there and better than the 'more expensive courses'. I would recommend this course to anyone. It has a good mix of holes. Very good. (I don't normally write reviews but this course deserves it)
After struggling as a new golfer (took up the sport in July) on a friend's course of choice, Brierley Forest was recommended as a perfect course for the beginner and the recommendation was spot on. The front 9 eases you into the course with wide open fairways, sporadic hazards and some nice, gentle greens. Going into the back 9 you realise the challenges to face: Back to back par 5's on 10 and 11 that are immensely long, zig-zag doglegs and blind approach shots mean once you leave the front 9 you need to be "on your game". The staff are great and the regulars and members are friendly and chatty - one even gave my playing partner tips on which tees to use to help his drives. Overall, this course is perfect for players learning the game and their swing, and provides a reasonable challenge for high to mid handicappers too. Low cap players may find it a little easy, but that makes for a fun round. At £10 for a round in the week, whether 9 or 18 (you don't have to stipulate when booking) and £15 at weekends this course has the value for money factor too. I'd say you need to play this course to experience it first hand, as it is now my regular playing location.
I play on this course about once every two weeks , the 1st nine aint to much trouble but then the back nine are challenging . when you get to the 10th - 13th (we call this the valley) these can be very challenging and a lot of walking envolved but it all adds to the fun . The hardest hole is the 15th due to the step up slope that it has . very friendly and only £10 weekdays and £15 weekends , i would advise any golfer to try this course , my best score is 107 which isnt bad due to only recently starting golf.
what a lovely course!,i live quite local to this course but had never played it,but what a pleasant surprise, the course is tight on most holes and percentage golf is a must, the fairways and greens were lush and a credit to the small green staff who were working constantly with a smile to greet you, back in the club house you are made welcome to the relaxed atmosphere and banter,i would definitely recommend this cheap pleasant course.
What a lovely course to play. It's relatively young as a course definitely a course of two halves but no easy ride. Do not expect to break the course record, small tight greens that are not flat! The set up is great it's under new management/ownership of people who care. They are working on significant changes to holes and improvements to the course. They deserve credit for their plans. Expect a warm friendly greeting in a casual atmosphere and bargain priced food/drinks.
recently.having heard reports that it was not very good I went to brierley forest golf club ,just because of the price,I was so surprised!the quality of the greens and fairways, the friendly staff made this my new local and I'm now play at least one a week or when work allows, the course is a full 18 with the first 9 breaking you in for the back 9.the firs 9 being quite easy going ad fairly level, but the back 9 starting with back to back par5s is much more challenging really worth a try .Recommended course to 3 friends who now are aso members . FANTASTIC COURSE. and the 19th is also worth a visit.
whilst working in the area , and seeing a road side sign for golf for ten pounds i thought i give it a go . Though not expecting much from a golf course that charges £ 10 per round i was really surprised and impressed with the standard of the course and the challege set by some tricky little holes and greens . Though the downsides are maybe the course is too short and the greens too firm and small, punishing all but the very best shot , overall maybe not the place for the low handicap or club golfer , but with a really friendly air about the place and smashing value for money worth a visit .
I've played here twice now because I am working in the area for a couple of months and have nejoyed it both times (May 2008). Current green fee during the week has been £10 for 18 holes which I consider to be very good value. Yes, the fairways are not great with quite a few weeds although these had been treated the last time I played. The greens are very even in pace but are left fairly long at times giving a slow pace. The bunkers still have rock hard builders sand in them but I believe the new owners are putting in much time, effort and money to make further improvements and proper sand is high on the list. The layout is well signposted making it easy to find your way around which is more than I can say for some courses charging three times this amount. The course itself is quite tight in places and is a good challenge. The staff and members are friendly and welcoming. All in all for £10 you cannot expect to get a pristine course that is fully manicured but I doubt you will get any better value and a better challenge for this sort of money so please give it a go.
