Fairwood overall is a excellent golfing facility - with a good clubhouse, a couple of bars, snooker table and numerous practice facilitys. Before I go into any detail on that, lets talk about the course. At 6300 yards of the yellows, and 6650 off the whites for the average duffer it is without doubt one of the longest courses in the area, but the width of the fairways is also very fair - OK you maybe hitting driver on most holes but if you cant hit these fairways you deserve to be punished. There is a decent variety of holes, doglegs left right, uphill, downhill short and long par 3's = but I would also say there isnt one hole that really sticks in the memory - there are a lot of nice holes - but none that you'll be talking about in the bar afterwards. It is though, an excellent test. You will need a lot of different shots to score well. And given how expensive some of the other links courses are in the area, it makes it excellent value for money. I would say the best hole is the 18th - a par 5 (4 from yellows, a even harder prospect!) with a large rolling fairway with a pond/stream crossing the green which can create some exciting finishs to any round. Unfortunatly the course is very damp at the minute as weve had a wet winter - therefore some of the fairways are long and the greens are bumpy - however this should all be ironed out in the summer and the greens, although not the best Ive played on, will be back upto a good standard - along with the fairways and tees (a good standard without being superb). Off course as I mentioned is very good, I havent tried the food but the beer is good the bar is comfortable and the staff friendly. Well worth a visit.
Played Fairwood 2 weeks ago on trip to Swansea area(also played Gower, Pennard and Clyne) Fairwood was a good, reasonable challenge. The fairways were in good condition, the rough was very challenging - find yourself a few yards off the fairway and its likely a chip out is as much as you can hope for. The layout of the course was a little bit disappointing given its pedigree (having hosted the Welsh PGA) with much of the course being quite flat and uninspiring, and other courses in the area (see above) would be my favourites to play again in preference to Fairwood. The welcome was warm, the course in v good condition, and overall it was worth a visit. On Mondays they do a £10 offer for a round, though you can't book a tee time. This meant that the course was busy, but at £10 for a course of this standard, you can't really complain.
The Course is very good. It helped me to win the ISHBEL PUTTER last week. I am still enjoying the after effects of my success. The course is exceptional.
This course is very forgiving. It is good for the experienced player and those like myself 27.6 I know you will enjoy the course and the clubhouse.
Until I played here I thought NR(no result) was my initials. It is a great course and full of surprises for the player who can excell and those not like me.
