I've played in a lot of golf courses in the borders. After reading the feedback about Peebles I thought i'd be in for really wonderful, scenic, challenging golf experience. Wrong. This course is nothing special. You'll find a lot of golf courses for half the rate they charge here. I've got nothing much to say except this course is WELL OVER RATED. I guess to those who thought this course is something really special they haven't "tasted" the likes of Gourock, Aberdour, Burntisland, Cawder, Bellingham etc.
Day one of our tour of the Scottish Borders, 8/9/2008. Drove up 350 miles and played Peebles in the afternoon, the course had been closed for the previous 2½ days, due the heavy rain, but we played in pleasant sunshine on a course that stood up well to those conditions. You will need to make your score on the front nine as the course gets progressively harder into the back nine. Whilst there are distance markers in the form of discs in centre of the fairway, there are no posts at the side of the fairway, an omission I allways feel tends to slow up the game. Perhaps its a ploy to encourage the sale of course planners, which we found very useful. Lovely views on a gently rolling course, a little hilly in places, but nothing excessive, good receptive greens. Overall the course is a nice introduction to Borders golf, with friendly members both on and off the course, well worth a visit.
Having read the other reports on this course I feel that on the basis of 2 visits to this course that it is somewhat overrated. It is the type of parkland course that could be found in many places in the UK and while there are few weak holes there are only a couple that I would feel worthy of a return visit. This is another course which suffers from the difference between the medal and visitors tees and bearing in mind that most users of the site will not even be allowed to play the course from the theoretical visitors tees I feel that this is an important element to be included in these reports. Clubhouse facilities are excellent.
PLAYED EARLY JUNE 05 FANTASTIC COURSE. BOTH GRREN AND FAIRWAYS IN GREAT ORDER SOUP AND SANDWICHES VERY TASTY FOLLOWED AROUND A COUPLE OF MEMBERS WHO WERE VERY CHATTY AND MADE US FEEL WELCOME. WELL RECCOMENDED
Peebles is a nice cource with lovely scenery and nice views and it also has really good greens, fairways and really good putting and practice range its catering is also beautiful i would recomend you go their to play and have a meal afterwards also it is quite cheap in the bar and restauraunt
Played here during our annual trip at the end of April. First impressions good but members did not seem to acknowledge us for some reason. Lovely clubhouse overlooking 1st fairway. The course is hilly in parts but has some fantastic views which take the pain in your legs away. Loads of good holes, we played on the freedom of the fairways vouchers so value was excellent, greens in top order as were the fairways.
I loved this course. The greens and fairways were all in really good condition, and the views of the surrounding hills are gorgeous. If you don't enjoy playing golf on a course like this, then it's time to take up a different sport!
This course has fantastic views of the surrounding hills and of the town of Peebles below it. The fairways are wide and forgiving and since it is on the side of a hill, the holes vary in character greatly. We did enjoy our day at Peebles, but our criticism is that the greens were in very poor condition. Staff were freindly and helpful. I would recommend a visit despite the greens.
Played this course as part of a golf break to Borders. Course is quite short but was in good condition with good views over the surrounding hills. I would certainly recommend the course.
We played this course as part of a 12-course tour of the Borders. We rated this the 3rd best course. Without doubt this course provided us with the best views of the entire week. It is an undulating parkland course maintained in good condition in a spectacular setting. A must on a golfing trip to the Borders. Good facilities but the food was not great.
One Should Take The Time To Play Peebles If For The Scenery Alone. The Course Is A Pleasent Layout And The Numerous Times That I Have Played It, I Have Found No Dissapointment. The Gentlemen Of The Club Are Most Amiable And It Is A Pleasure To Play A Round Of Golf In Their Company If Given The Opportunity. I Will Return As Often As Able. Kevin P.
