Wearside Golf Club

Played this course as part of a 3 new courses in 3 days outing and was not dissapointed. The setting is below the historic Penshaw Monument although above a fairly industrial area. However, very friendly and generally a very nice lay out. The greens had just been top dressed and we had not been informed of this when booking but it was the end of March so for £17 there was no real complaints. The fairways are well layed out and a course guide is definately recommended as many holes are certainly not booming a driver out there and would be more suited to a nicely placed iron or 5 wood as there are a few blind drives. Good off course facilities and friendly proshop. Generally a good days golf and will definately be returning in the summer to play the course at its best.

I found Wearside to be a very open, but very challenging course. Many shots are played blind which makes for constant reference to your course planner (trust me, you'll need one!). Greens were superb and loved the little par 3 with a 100 foot drop in front of it! Only downside, not very well signposted around the holes (played one of the holes twice!) and the 18th is a disappointing dogleg finishing hole with only a 7 iron drive available to get you in position for a long finish. Apart from that, i recommend you give it a try.
